If fuel leaks out of the regulator, then I would bet the diaphragm is leaking.  If TH has replacement regulators (I think I remember having to buy more than just the regulator to get one) then that is your best route.  If you take the regulator apart, be very careful of the little spring that is in there.  I have  replaced the old covers with new ones, but never had a diaphragm fail.

Tower sells them, but they aren't cheap....

Dan

Does that regulator still have the original cover on it? It's been so long since that engine was in the air, I don't remember.  I'd bet on the regulator cover leaking.  They warp.  That's why the replacements have no logo and a set of ribs.  It makes the cover stiffer.

Cass Underwood once flew nearly two years with a nylon wire tie around his regulator to keep it from leaking.  I once sanded all the logo off the cover to make it flat then made a clamping plate out of approx. 1/32 brass.  Duane Wilson has that regulator now.  Both these fixes are cheap and just work.

The last time I checked, Tower would not sell pieces for a regulator.  I think I once bought the entire carb to solve the regulator leaking problem.  That was before the brass plate experiment.

Try the wire tie first.

OK, Jay, that is the pump, but Dan needs a regulator, at least the cover for it -- appears his cover is leaking fuel...Steve Byrum suggested a couple of solutions that do not require mortgaging the house to OS Engines/Tower Hobbies.

You are right. The regulator only comes as a part of the carb, OSMG2533. The O.S. part list does not list it as a separate item. For that you will have to mortgage the house, and it will not be available until December.

I put a GP Dirty Birdi ARF (unopened) up for sale yesterday for $300 (TH price) and said I would throw in a new OS FS-91 Surpass II/Pumped for another $100.

I suspect that anyone buying a new OS in the future will go for the gas.

If the inner diaphram is busted, I have one. In all the emails I don't remember who needs it though. By all means, order the pump cover above because it fixes the problem Steve B was discussing. And also, be very careful, you will loose an irreplaceable spring if you are not careful with the disassemble.  Vic

Great eye Vic. That is a regulator cover for sure, even though Tower calls it a “O.S. Pump Governor Cover 60N 70N”

Hmmm, when I searched using Tower's search engine, I didn't get any of that stuff.  Wonder what I did wrong?
