Hope all is well with the group that enjoys flying and competing with the classic planes. We are 1 week away from the 4th annual GAMA event. We have great #s signed up currently with 2 more locals that should make it and a few more that I think will make it. Field is open all day Friday for practice. With a pilot count at 20ish plus hopefully, please be at the field by 8 Saturday so we can get everyone registered, planes together and ready for a 9am pilots meeting. Long range forecast is looking good with 5 to 10 down the runway with the normal summertime chance of an afternoon shower.  Greg

Good to hear Jeff, safe travels. All, weather looks fine, may get a 30 min storm Saturday afternoon may not get anything. If there is anyone thinking about showing Saturday morning who is not currently signed up on the list please give us some notification. It sure makes it easier on the score keeper and CD to at least get a day or 2 notice for planning and setting up the scoring. Everyone drive safely and looking forward to seeing everyone Friday for practice or early Saturday morning.  Greg 478 397 5812

My weather app lists high percentages, but I’m coming regardless. One of the best times I had was a weekend where we were totally rained out on Saturday, but had a great time visiting, with great flying Sunday (not expecting that.)

Where are people staying, and could anyone use a roommate?

Just want to thank everyone who showed up and hopefully enjoyed the weekend even with less than perfect weather. We all stayed focused on the task of flying when weather allowed and everyone had the opportunity to post 6 rounds. If you have not noticed the dates on the certificates are not correct. We will have corrected ones for you the next time we cross paths. Gordon I have yours and will get it to you at Prattville at the latest, hope your drive home went well. Greg

In spite of the 6+ hour drive each way and the embarrassing flying I did, the weekend was well worth it. Greg, you ran a great contest.

We had some “interesting” weather with short rain events seemingly coming outta nowhere. It started sprinkling just as I took off, and unfortunately it wasn’t just a brief sprinkle-when I looked up on my first maneuver rain ran down my glasses, making for some interesting airplane shapes at critical times during the maneuver. Finally on the “Slow Roll” the plane was just a wet blob, and it was time to get it down—quickly.

I remember another time when a bolt of lightning flashed right in front of someone and the “crackle-boom” of thunder followed immediately. It wasn’t raining at that moment, but it certainly wasn’t good for your concentration—time to land, with rain following. Exciting to watch, traumatic to experience for the pilot. “Shake it off” “ no problem “😜.

I really enjoyed getting together with SPA friends and making new ones.

A personal debt of “thanks” to everyone for the help they provided with my battery charging  problems, and a special thanks to president Jeff Owens for his 2-stroke engine expertise on the Miss Norway; we were able to get a flight in after hours.

Thanks Duane for the opportunity to tune the engine and fly the Miss Norway. It flew really well and is ready for some final trimming. No apparent bad habits. It should be a lot of fun for you.

Cheers,

Jeff
