 Spack v1.1 is out!

This release is focused on usability improvements following on the massive changes in Spack 1.0.

There are two exciting new experimental features in this release, including a new Installer UI and a concretization cache. We’re very excited about these features, and expect they will both be mainline features in v1.2 after the initial bugs are worked out. Try them out and let us know what you think!

There are relatively few breaking changes compared to previous feature releases of Spack, the biggest breaking change being that the user environment scope is now below a spack scope in the spack prefix in priority.

Read it all in the release notes!

31 people contributed code to this release, and innumerable others contributed by reporting bugs, discussing features, and generally engaging in the Spack community.

AND

 Spack Packages v2025.11.0 is out!

This is the second release since the packages repo was split from Spack core.

With this release, there are now 8611 packages in Spack.

Read about it, including a list of new and removed packages, in the release notes:

265 people contributed code to this release, and again so many others helped make it possible by their engagement in the Spack community on GitHub, on Slack, at conferences, and through all the other channels of communication that you pop up in.

Thanks to all of you for contributing — we absolutely could not maintain this without you all!
