PARK AVENUE UNITED
METHODIST WOMEN
The First Annual UMW Retreat Was A Success!
On June 17th, 13 women set off to Camp Olmsted, and the little town of Cornwall on the Hudson, for a break from the City, fellowship, study and fun. Our theme was "Contemplation and Action" and we drew inspiration from the stories of Martha and Mary (Luke 10: 38-42), Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:7-41) and a modern day, true story of 70 women from Sierra Leone so inspired in their study of the scriptures that they resolved to be catalysts for change in their country's political system--dangerous and courageous action on their part! Time was made for a pizza party, good conversation, laughs and walks along the Hudson, concluding Saturday with a brainstorming session of ideas for future mission projects, fundraising and fellowship & study opportunities.
Missed this retreat? Stay tuned for a future retreat opportunity in the Fall...

OUTREACH & SOCIAL CONCERNS
JOIN UMCOR IN RESPONDING TO DISASTER ACROSS THE SOUTH
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is working with bishops and disaster response personnel in annual conferences hit by the recent storms and tornadoes to assess damages and next steps to assist communities in need. At the start of the 2011 spring storms season, an unprecedented number of severe storms, including tornadoes, hail, and high winds, has raced across the United States, provoking widespread damage and flooding in the South and Central regions. The month of April alone has seen more than 7,000 such storms, which produced nearly 600 tornadoes. Rivers, including the Mississippi, are at record 100-year-flood levels. The cleanup and recovery from this series of events will take years. Your gift to US Spring Storms 2011, UMCOR Emergency Advance #3021326, is urgently needed to help those affected by this severe weather.
Please make your check payable to “PAUMC” with “UMCOR #3021326” in the memo line.
