Hi everyone,

Next Wednesday (3/27) from 12-1 in Rosenau 133 in the School of Public Health, Health Care for All UNC will be meeting to engage students from NC or with ties from NC in engaging their lawmakers and communities around advocacy efforts with health access. If you are from NC or have ties to communities in NC, we would especially love if you can join us. Or if you want to learn more about health advocacy and ways to support others from NC. See more details below including a message from one of the organization's co-chairs and hope to see you at the meeting next week!

If you have any questions or want more information about getting involved, please feel free to reach out directly to me (Elizabeth, eby...@live.unc.edu)

From Hannah, co-chair Health Care For All UNC:

More about why we are engaging with North Carolinians:

As you have probably seen, Health Care For All UNC is working on the Medicaid Expansion campaign through the Health Action NC Coalition.

One of the efforts of this campaign is speaking directly and sharing with our legislators. In a meeting last week with my legislator from my home district, I heard over and over how he does not hear from his constituents that this issue matters to them. Both of my legislators are Republican and identify as strongly conservative, and we were able to have a full conversation that will continue in the next few months through various forms. If you too are from North Carolina, and or lived in parts of the state that are represented by republican legislators, please reach out so we can get you connected to share your voice and why you believe everyone in our state should have access to health coverage.

A major focus of the statewide campaign is organizing voters to reach out to their legislators, so your actions are really important, and do matter. There are some simple ways to be involved by sending a letter or making a phone call, which we can share templates and resources for, and other ways to become more involved particularly with your home communities.

Hi Everyone! This is a petition to request that UNC reduce graduate school tuition during Covid-19. We simply can't have the same learning or student experience during this time nor can we access the campus facilities for which many student fees are collected - yet our tuition remains unchanged. Any amount the University could lower tuition has the potential to make a great impact in the lives of the UNC community. Consider signing and sharing this petition. It's worth a shot

If anyone has permission to access a larger SoSW and/or UNC grad school list serve, please consider forwarding this message.

All the best,
Katie
