Hello Everyone --

Though a vegetable and flower gardener for some time, this is my first
winter (or fall?) garden. Planted some lettuces, cabbages, bok choi,
a bit of kale, etc. No chard, which I regret and don't know if it's
too late to put that in. All has done well and we have eaten salads
from this small rabbit patch.

But we are wondering how long this bounty will last (in the Atlanta
area)? That is, will this entire garden die soon? We noticed that
the freezes have not thus far [seemed] to affect even the lettuces.

Would someone like to comment on how long the various greens can be
harvested throughout the winter?

Thanks --

Julie

My experience with kale was that it kept going and going (like the Energizer veg) and it actually tastes better after a hard freeze. We are still eating good tomatoes, but best to pick them once they turn pale green and let them ripen on the counter--if there's a hard freeze, it will ruin whatever fruit is on the vine.
