Google App Engine has responded to developer feedback with the following: A few adjustments to App Engine’s upcoming pricing changes. What's important to AWSQS is the increase to 28 free instance hours per day from 24.  That should allow for current traffic patterns and loads to be handled uninterrupted.

I will still be looking into optimizations and other changes as time allows.  This will be done in a new GAE application, which is required to take advantage of some of the new multi-threading features.  When that is ready, the original AWSQS will remain operational but will be closed to new users.  Please note that this not occur earlier than 2012, to allow time for the new features to arrive and be stabilized.

I will continue to post updates, but for now, AWSQS remains viable.
