AWEIL, July 18, 2016 [Gurtong]- Andrew Lual Buola,
former Aweil town mayor was relieved on Tuesday last week by the State
Governor, Ronald Ruay Deng and was replaced by the former deputy Mayor.
Andrew Lual Buola who served only for 5 months in the office was sacked
by the Governor for what the State government called a normal change.
Lual said his relief is politically motivated by those he termed
‘opportunists’ and politicians whom he said wanted to grab opportunities
for corruption. He said the Minister of Finance Garang Majak Bol and
the Minister of Local Government, Ajak Michael pressured the Governor to
relieve him off duty.
He said his sacking will encourage more corruption within the leadership
as he allegedly accused the two ministers of having raided and closed
some shops they alleged the owners were not paying the demanded taxes.
“The Governor has pressure. He is having pressure from some people. The
people who did this are the Ministers of Finance and Local Government.
She has an upper hand and interest of who she needs picked for the
position. They say the reasons of removal are that I am a member of
parliament but I refuted and told him that everything should be done in
line with laws of the country and gave him examples that -Hon. Atak
Akello has been a Mayor before me and he was an MP, Jiel Mangok has been
a Commissioner for years and was an MP too. And if we really follow the
laws, then you as a Governor when you were appointed we were supposed
to reject you because the constitution of South Sudan allows only
someone above 40 years but you are under this age.” He said.
The government secretary, General Dominic Kang says the reaction of the
former Mayor is inappropriate as no one is targeting him but says
changes are normal in any government.
He reiterated that his removal was not politically motivated.
“No, there is no misconduct, there is nothing like that, but this is
just a normal change of the government, government can also change you
and can take you to any place you fit such that you can deliver services
to the people and can bring any other person to replace you. I think
those are the normal changes which used to happen in government not only
in Aweil State government.” He noted.
Meanwhile the newly appointed Mayor Hon. Simon Tong expressed his
gratitude for his appointment promising that he will not condone
corruption in the limited resources of the State.
Tong further says his administration will make the town green by planting trees along the main roads.
