Good afternoon, Weekly,
The pitch doc looks a little different this week — it's actually three different documents. Our
traditional pitch doc is available as always, but we're also highlighting two special issues that, for ease of use, have their own pitch docs:
our cannabis issue, coming up in February, and
our holiday issue, which is happening in just a couple weeks.
Pitches for the holiday issue include:
Blurbs of holiday things: a cookie crawl in Beverly, Christmas lights on King Drive, and the best places to buy chocolate, salami, & custom suits. These are similar to BoSS blurbs, and should be pretty quick to write — feel free to pick up a blurb or three or eight.
Holiday wellness is a topic we're interested in covering more in-depth — the holidays can be a stressful and difficult time, and this pitch will explore some practical coping strategies for this time of year.
The CTA's holiday train will be making a South Side run — we're interested in doing a photo-essay about the train, along with short interviews with some of its riders.
Holiday histories is a series we did a couple years ago and would like to bring back — stop by a market or café and talk to some South Siders about what they're doing for the season.
Pitches for the cannabis issue (which isn't until February, so there's some time):
The Indiana border, where legalization hasn't happened — will people be driving across the border to dispensaries in Illinois? Will Indiana police be stepping up enforcement of their laws?
On a similar note, continued consumption restrictions are another thing we're looking to cover — consumption will be prohibited in federal housing, and federal law enforcement remains able to enforce federal drug statutes. These restrictions may be arbitrarily enforced and the impact may disproportionately fall along racial lines.
Cannabis boot camps have started springing up in advance of the January 1st legalization date, ostensibly to teach people about the cannabis industry. Are these camps legitimate, and how do graduates do in the first month or so after legalization?
Special BoSS-style pieces on the best budtender or grower
Dos and Don'ts: What can you do, where is the law fuzzy, and what should people watch out for?
As always, you can claim a pitch by just responding to this email.
