Hello South Side Weekly community,
We are less than two weeks out from our Election Issue and
looking for writers to interview three candidates running for
Secretary of State. Writers would need to interview candidates and
write up drafts (which can be in a Q&A format) by next
Saturday, June 11.
Writers will receive a set of questions from Weekly editors to
get started but are encouraged to add their own, focusing on how
candidates would strengthen election infrastructure, improve the
accessibility of state services, and address ethics and corruption
issues. Each interview should end up being about 1000 words and
will need a short introductory overview.
You can sign up to write just one of the profiles, but have the
option to do multiple if interested.
Alexi Giannoulias
The former Illinois Treasurer, a progressive, has the endorsement
of Cook County Democrats. Giannoulias has emphasized making voting
easier, road safety, and ethics reforms.
Anna Valencia
Current City Clerk and former Emanuel ally has received the most
endorsements for Secretary of State. Valencia has said she'd
update the department's technology infrastructure and expand
access to services.
David Moore
17th Ward Alderperson David Moore is another contender, though
he's behind in polls and endorsements. Moore has talked about
targeting corruption and expanding the power of the Inspector
General.
If interested, please use this form to claim one (or more) of these pitches. You can also reply to this email (but don't hit 'reply-all').
Also - hi! I'm Adam Przybyl, the Weekly's new(ish) managing editor. I was pretty involved with the Weekly a few years ago, including by serving as the editor-in-chief. One of my goals in the coming months is to be more in touch with the Weekly contributor community, such as by sending more regular emails to this group with writing and other opportunities.
