Reading the bible through this year? Express yourself. We can learn
by sharing.

To get us started, here's something unimportant in Genesis I've always
puzzled over. Adam and many of his descendents lived to be over 900
years old, right? So... were the "young man" or "young woman" years
the same as now? That is, in your 20's, 30's, and maybe 40's? Or was
it proportional, that is, were they still "young men" up to age 200 or
so? Now that would be cool! Still playing full court basketball with
the guys at 175 years old!

I was wondering that same thing, after all a man of 80 would be
equivalent to a boy of 10 or so by our terms, hard to imagine. But,
consider this, Jacob was in his 80's when he was fleeing Laban with
his new wives (something I never noticed till this read-through) and
Moses was 80 when he first went to Pharaoh. Hard to imagine those
guys doing all that if they were like 80 year olds today (and
considering how frail 100 year olds are in our day, an 800 year old
person would be totally incapacitated).

So, I'm thinking that it was proportional. I guess it was the ongoing
effects of sin on Creation that made us age quicker and die younger.
Either that or artificial sweeteners. 8-)

So the question that's been posed to me, was a year a year as we know
it today, or did they have a different measuring stick? I'm inclined
to believe that the years were the same. We're told that those who
enter the miillinial reign of Christ here on earth will live to the
end. So I think that the end will be as it was it the beginning.
When sin has been removed from the world that man will live long life
periods and that it was the introduction of sin into to the world that
caused the decline man spititually and physically. When sin is
removed again by satan being chained and removed from the world life
flourishes again. I know I'm looking forward to that. The way this
56 yr old body feels most of the time now i don't even want to think
about being 900 in this format.
