Hello,

In the summer I'm going to be in charge of running a Maker workshop as part of a PHAB residential course. I'll have 8 young adults with very varied mental and physical abilities and 8 sixth form hosts to entertain, and the facilities of a school Design and Technology workshop to work with - including a laser cutter, bandsaw, power and hand tools etc.

Last year we had a 'Space' theme and I pre-prepared some space graphics which the attendees cut into coasters and badges on the laser cutter, cast as pewter jewellery etc. I also programmed some Arduino Minis to drive 8x8 matrix displays as eyes which we hot glued onto cycle helmets, then added wire-frames and EL wire to make alien heads (thanks for the idea, TomN!)

I'm starting to think about ideas for this year now. I don't have a huge budget, but I do have one - and a few quid goes a long way on AliExpress!

The theme for this year will be James Bond, so I shall be naming the sessions 'Q's Workshop' I think - now what do I make?!? Any ideas gratefully accepted...

Cheers,

RichM.

Lost 1st post, but

- rings with rfid implanted (school or oyster)
- loaded backgammon die
- voice modulator (CMOS chip music or circuit bending)
- hidden radios/remotes (tv-b-gone?)
- making lock picks (from earrings?)
- seagul on a scuba set?

The Wikipedia list is quite extensive, but I imagine that the DB5 is out of the question, as is the "ghetto blaster "

Thanks Lauren.

I have bought one of these kits to have a look at modifying it a bit - looks like a bomb countdown display

http://m.aliexpress.com/item/32281188065.html

I've put together an RFID system that polls Google docs to give a customised greeting as the guests scan their cards/tags/rings

And I've found a very James Bond remote control - might use it to make remote control led lighting

Would be grateful for any suggestions about ready to incorporate led modules suitable for perhaps bedside or task lighting

I love aliexpress..

It wouldn't fit in the arch, but I've always been in awe of Charon

I've made zoetropes before
Biggest issue is motor control and balancing the lighting. Needs to be on <5% of time but illuminate enough for 100%

Google Pixar zoetrope :)
