Tonight - Cultural Festival Meeting

Just to let you know there will be a meeting about this tonight in Enfield at 6pm - let me know if you would like to come or get involved in the project at the next meeting - would be great to have all the  communities involved from the outset. One idea is for a World Food Festival possibly in Southgate .. ?

Community Arts Festival Meeting  

I have recently been asked to participate in a new project facilitated by the Council. The aim of the project is to encourage local community groups to work together across the Borough, sharing resources but also where possible to collaborate in making community arts, culture and festival type events together, across community boundaries of religion race age and economic class.

The project is in a very early stage (one meeting only so far) and is being facilitated by the Leisure and Communities department within the council but the idea is for the agenda and exact direction of the collaboration to be driven by the local grassroots ie cultural and other working communities. There is also quite a big potential for funding (the Council's annual budget for this work in the dept is £200,000 and they have mentioned that we could potentially take over it as a Borough-wide team) and also for events that are culturally sensitive.   

People who have attended the first meeting were a diverse range of talented events organisers, arts people and local social entrepreneurs, and there was a real sense of possibiilty of what we might achieve together. 

One idea as a first step which is being promoted by me (and getting support) is for a first of its kind world food (and possibly arts / wider cultural)  festival possibly in September which could be driven by the local communities, help fund raise for them but also with an educational component eg to fight racism /  hate attitudes and create a more supportive, mutually understanding  and connected relationship between the different economic classes and that live and work in the Borough.  

I hope you or someone within your community will be  interested in this. If so it would be good if you or your group could send a representative to the meeting tonight or come to the next one.
