The
Luna Tango ensemble includes guitarist Rod Petrone with current and former members of the
Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra including Abby Wilensky, Principal
violinist; Melissa Orr, second violin and viola; Anne Robison, cellist,
and alternate Lauren Trolley, violin and viola. Rod
Petrone is the founding member of Luna Tango, and does many of the
arrangements for the string quartet. He has performed as a soloist in
New York and Portland and with a Tango Orchestra in Portland. The Luna
Tango repertoire includes the more traditional compositions and
arrangements for tango suitable for tango dance and some more
contemporary works by such composers as Astor Piazzola.
DJ Marion has brought her tango life to Ashland from
Paris, where she began DJing in 2012. She is grateful whenever she has
the pleasure of playing music for tango events, which gives her the
magical feeling of dancing with everyone on the floor at once. She
especially loves the way that the variety & complexity of the
orchestras and long history of tango gives us the opportunity to create a
wonderful diversity of emotions that we get to build together over the
course of each night of dancing. One of her favorite tango quotes is
“Each tango tells you how to dance it.” She has found the Rogue Valley
tango community extremely welcoming and is honored to be able to help
keep it dancing!
