Yay! Mitra Martin is coming through town September 11-13, and will be offering us a couple workshops as well as private lessons. Mitra was a big supporter of and contributor to our CONNECT tango festivals and I'm so excited to see her and learn from her again!

Thursday September 11, 7:00-9:00 (During practica time, at Samarra's Home Studio) $25, scholarships and work trade available, talk to Samarra

Mitra’s Tango possibility generator: 2 systems, 3 steps, 9 combinations, 24 moves, and beyond Level: Awakening/Proficient

Deliberate practice improves your tango. Yet, how often do we *really* do it? Practicas turn into casual milongas...and sometimes you end up practicing the same little nit-picky thing or vague quality for years. Or maybe you never even practice at all because we’re not sure where to start! Having a system that will help you make the most of your practice time is a game-changer. It will make you stand out as a practice partner and a dancer. You’ll always have a clear, specific answer for that question, “What are you working on?” or a concrete gambit for productive work when inviting someone to practice.

In this workshop you’ll get under the hood of an innovative system that enables you to systematically explore tango situations and combinations.
With practice you’ll be able to use it to generate chance combinations of tango elements to discover sequences you’ve never done before, breaking your habits and ruts and also possibly your brain — and opening up your dance.

 Saturday September 13, 2:00pm, S's Home Studio, $25
Impactful, Community-Building Strategies in Peer-Based Tango Learning.
For established or emerging teachers and organizers only ( ask me if you're not sure if you qualify)

For many of us, the old strategies of developing a community — series classes, guest workshops, practicas and milongas — are not enough. Group classes have their place, and there is much to learn from amazing maestros and beloved, devoted local teachers and organizers. But to create momentum in our communities, we need to complement this with more modern strategies like structured peer-to-peer learning and project-based learning. These require new approaches to curriculum documentation and rubric design.
Aspiring, established, open-minded tango community facilitators, teachers, and club leaders are welcome to come and learn how innovative community learning models like the learning lab and challenge format work, and how you can apply them in your context. #
