Dear Southern Maine freethinkers,

How is the group organizing going? Are there things you're coming up
against that you could use help with? If you're off to a good start,
and have a core of students together, please make sure that you
affiliate with the Secular Student Alliance:

http://www.secularstudents.org/community/join.html

Here are some of the benefits of affiliation:

1) We ask nothing of our student affiliates, only that they are in
line philosophically with our minimum statement (available via the
link above).

2) We exist to provide our groups with all they need to stick around,
and be strong, educational, and active campus groups dedicated to non-
religious ethics, scientific inquiry, and skepticism. To this end, we
provide a Speakers Bureau--with this service, you choose a name from
the list, send me an email about when you would like this person to
come speak, or debate, and I handle the rest of the logistics while
your group tackles the advertising. Here are the names on our
Speakers Bureau:
http://www.secularstudents.org/node/209 (listed off to the left).

3) We offer project grants. They're easy to apply for, and nearly all
worthy projects will receive at least something. If your group needs
funding to carry out a project, submit the following project grant
proposal:
http://www.secularstudents.org/grants

4) Full time staff support, I'm here to answer your group running
questions at all times! Feel free to contact me at
ali...@secularstudents.org.

5) We offer travel grants to conferences. At our last conference,
students listened to and met Salman Rushdie, E.O Wilson, Steven
Pinker, were given a tour of Harvard University (where our conference
was held) saw a private concert with Dar Williams, and attended an
activist training session.

6) We publish student content and interviews in our electronic
newsletter and on the front page of our website. To send submissions,
email:
en...@secularststudents.org
This is a great way to share the news of your group with like-minded
students around the world, and is a feather in your group's cap.

7) Here is the link to the other services we offer:
http://www.secularstudents.org/community/services.html

Affiliation takes about 5 minutes. Join the hundred other groups
around the world! If you would like to affiliate your group, just fill
out the form here:
http://www.secularstudents.org/community/join.html

I'm looking forward to working with your group! If you are having
trouble getting your group going, please let me know and we'll work
together to get a group up and running.

Best wishes,
--
