If we look back 12 months I understand the then proposal was to withdraw the dedicated Gatwick Express service and reuse that timetable for the benefit of the whole Southern network.  Following pressure from the airlines, and one in particular, we now have the requirement to retain the GE with, as a compromise, some trains extended to Brighton.   In summary there did not appear to be much to consult on with the Brighton line RUS given these prerequisite conditions.   I fear the same will be for any future RUS.

This group, in conjunction with BRAG and others will need a substantial and sustained ‘voice’ to make Lord Adonis listen to the hundreds of daily commuters paying in excess of £3k per annum to travel on inconvenient, over crowded and late running trains.

The pressure on Lord Adonis is therefore to scrap the pre condition to retain the Gatwick Express thus making the East Coastway RUS meaningful.
