Dear Southern,

I’ve still not received a reply to the letter I sent on the 25th February 2009 (though you have acknowledged receiving it) which I think is a pretty fair representation of how highly you regard your customers.

In advance of awaiting a reply, I just thought I’d send you a diary of the delays and inconveniencies I suffered in June whilst using your ‘service’.

March 5th – 1857 from Eastbourne arrives over an hour late at London Victoria.
March 17th -  1806 from London Victoria arrives at Eastbourne at 2025. Well past the scheduled arrival time.
March 18 – 1857 from Eastbourne – no heating. Train 6 minutes late arriving.
March 19th – 1847 from London Victoria. No toilets working.
March 20th – 1847 from London Victoria. No toilets working
March 21st – 1847 from London Victoria. No toilets working.
March 26th – 1847 from London Victoria. Train 8 minutes late arriving at Eastbourne.
March 31st – 1847 from London Victoria. Train departs 22 minutes late.

The above is all in conjunction with vastly overcrowded trains on which people are expected to stand for over three-quarters of the journey.

I did not think the service, for which I now pay over £4000 per annum, could deteriorate any further but this is one area in which you have managed to exceed expectation.

Yours sincerely,

Jason Wood.

The letter refers to March delays. Amended before sending. There will of course be similar delays in June (and July, August etc etc). I also sent a copy of the letter to Lord Adonis.

On Wednesday 30 September a meeting with Lord Adonis and East Coastway
Commuter Group/Bexhill Rail Action Group (BRAG) was hosted by Nigel
Waterson MP. Other participants included Alex Foulds, Development
Director of Southern Railway and Cllr Steve Wallis of Eastbourne
Borough Council. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the concerns of
East Sussex commuters travelling to/from London and along the coast
using the East Coastway service.

Full details of the meeting are available via the Southern East
Coastway Commuters Google Group at
http://southern-east-coastway-commuters.googlegroups.com/web/pr091001.pdf

You may need to log into the Group before you can access the file.

The message about the meeting came from me rather than the Group
address, so I'll post here any responses which come back to me.
