Hi all

http://www.argentart.co.uk/page9.htm

The detail on the cartoon history of Southend is worth a look- not least as it shows all the Pier fires and Dr Feelgood feature too (the devil is in the detail and all that).

Oh and there's one for Leigh folk and Skipton - famous for it's castle, Whittaker's home made mint thins and a cracking Wensleydale cheese stall.

Richard Argent - 'From Comic Beginnings'

Date: 11th May 2011 - 31st May 2011
Location: Southend Central Library
Cost: - free, yes free!
A self-published comic book artist whose work has appeared in many small press publications and international exhibitions, Richard Argent brings new work of a very different style to Southend Library.

Adopting a more traditional approach to painting and producing individual images which stand alone, without reliance on narrative or the comforts of continuity has proven a challenging step but one Richard has found to be greatly fulfilling. Traces of the comic book artist can still be seen in these new works which utilise fine pen work in juxtaposition to bright colour washes, creating an image which is both striking and emotive. As often results when artists migrate from one discipline to another, innovation occurs in the pursuit of a seemly technique and the sometimes heterodox transferral of themes/areas of exploration and these highly original images rendered in the traditional mediums of Ink, Gouache and Watercolour, of traditional subjects; form a distinctive and refreshing departure from the norm.
Works are available to purchase at reasonable prices.

Enjoy
Simon
