Cathy, I have forwarded your email to some of my local contacts to make them aware of your and your team's scope and interests. Hopefully we can start an exchange of ideas going and maybe 2012 will be the year of the Southend Food Network/local food strategy development...

Hi Kamil,

My interest in this is from a variety of angles.

Personally I believe food is important in many ways – quality, families eating together, learning to cook, buy local, grow local etc.

In terms of the work I do, the Enterprise and Community Team are keen to promote local businesses – existing and potential, linking restaurants, food shops and food growers gives us an excellent way to promote the area.

I am also involved in the Green Conference – March next year and am keen on promoting sustainable schemes that are happening in Southend.

As part of the Green Conference I am looking at an event similar to the one referred to in the Food Link report attached.

Happy to talk more if you have time

Yes,  people commented on the blog and at events that the map is interesting. I think if there was someone or a group committed to drive the work and to focus volunteers efforts that it could move on from the online draft to a Local Directory. I see from other initiatives that if given time and attention work on local food matters leads to a Local Sustainable Food Strategy and setting up of Food Hubs with other projects along the way: new community gardens, farmers markets, community owned shops ans social enterprises.

I would be glad to read what is your interest in working on local food matters.
