Pres. Sirleaf & Executive Of MOLAC
-Wants
her Step Down
-Describes Her as Mere Joker
Although President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and her supporters continue to ignore
protest against her regime, those calling for her resignation for corruption,
nepotism and poverty are increasing on a daily basis. Whether the government is
doing anything to address the issues being raised by the people or is a matter
of grave concern.
It is uncertain how long this campaign will last and what will happen if the
President steps down or fails to do so. All in all, Liberia’s fragile peace is
under threat.
But as A. Omaska Marks
of our Staff Reports,
another civil society group has joined the Ellen’s stepping-down Campaign. A
youth group under the banner Movement of Liberians Against Corruption, (MOLAC)
has joined the national crusade for the resignation of President Ellen Johnson
Sirleaf. MOLAC, in a news conference held in Monrovia on Tuesday described the
Madam Sirleaf as “mere joker.”
The latest group told journalists that it was joining the Ellen stepping-down
campaign for rampant corruptions, nepotism, cronyism and egotism in the
government.
Addressing a well attended press conference on Tuesday, the National
Coordinator of the group, T. Marwolo Bongolee said, Pres. Sirleaf has ruled
Liberia for 8 years now with concrete steps to address the needs and aspirations
of ordinary Liberians. “But she has invited egotistic individuals in
government and appointing her children to key
positions to squander our
resources” Mr. Bongolee said.
According to him, Pres Sirleaf who came to power with an overwhelming
international and national supports has failed to reconcile Liberians but
unfortunately transformed the country into a criminal enterprise inundated with
people whom he described as bunch of imported corrupt individuals.
The National Coordinator of the latest group to join the anti-Ellen added that
Madam Sirleaf who claims to be advocate of democracy, human rights, the rule of
law and social justice, has transformed the Liberian Government into a family
business enterprise, alleging that over 17 members of her family, friends and
cronies were currently holding powerful positions in the government while she
is reportedly succeeding to exclude skilled and well meaning Liberians.
The group through its Coordinator noted that anti-corruption agencies,
including the Liberia Anti-Corruption (LACC), the Public Procurement and
Concession Commission (PPCC) and the General Auditing Commission (GAC) were
established to accommodate the President’s friends in government.
Meanwhile, MOLAC has described as weakness and failure on the part of the
Sirleaf regime to fight corruption, which according to the civil group has
become an epidemic, eating the fabric of the Liberian society, “with Pres
Sirleaf family and friends at the forefront.” the group said.
The group also alleged that the Sirleaf regime is infested with former rebels,
rebel leaders and combatants whom MOLAC asserted are in cohort with their
master, Madam Sirleaf and placed in high political offices.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Bongolee added that some of these people
perpetrated heinous crimes against the Liberian people but they were freely
roaming the streets simply because the President, their friend, has favored
them and employed them.
However, the group has made several demands including; the unconditional
revision of all concession agreements, the unconditional implementation of both
GAC and TRC reports, the release of Journalist Rodney Sieh and the 18 alleged
Grand Gedeans who are in prolonged detention.
