Would this be a competitor to something like the techshop? If so,
would we want to suggest a partnership with that organization
instead?

Also if you get to the stage of looking for tools, don't forget to
swing by the high precision machine shop behind the dojo and let them
know that you want first dibs on machines they might want to sell
cheap.

Hi Ian,

Yeah, it could be considered a competitor to the techshop. However, I
have not particular desire to be a competitor, and I'm cool with
creating a partnership with them. How do you envision it working? Do
you have any ideas about how we might go about doing it? Perhaps we
could have a mini-techshop/Mountain View.

Good suggestion, re: the machine shop behind the hackerdojo.

I emailed Jim Newton to ask if he'd like to discuss the possibility of a
partnership.

I would suggest looking at madagascar institute in NYC.

techshop markets access to expensive cnc equipment.  there is overlap in the this is a public access workshop concept... but techshop's key benefit to my mind is shared access to expensive cnc.

What you are suggesting derives its core value not from shared access to expensive ( i mean SUPER expensive ) resources.  The benefit is community.  As it is with hackerspaces.  And the resources are shared tools... not plasma cutters.  At least not for now.

There is a distinction.  I think a partnership is not only possible but mutually beneficial.

Anyone interested in the $149 group rate for duct/dryer cleaning?

We’re scheduling a dryer vent cleaning with Michael and if anyone else is interested, we can get a group discount. Normally, this service costs $350, but if more people sign up, the price drops to $149 per home! Not cleaning your dryer vent increases the risk of fire in your home because lint and dust build up inside the vents, which can become a serious fire hazard.
We’ve used this service before, and they do an excellent job. (he does duct and chimney cleaning if you need that as well)

If interested, please send me your availability, home address, and phone number via email, and I will add you to the list. Thanks!
