to Southside Historic District Discussion Group
TO ALL THE WONDERFUL SUPPORTERS OF THE SOUTHSIDE:

We apologize for the length of this email but we wanted to be sure you
were up to date with everything that is happening!

Planning continues to be moving at a fast pace, so be it cold, windy,
sleet, rain or hopefully a pretty day, Mainx24 will be happening 24
hours beginning Saturday morning, December 6th.

Before we update you on the latest information since our last update,
a couple of house cleaning items:

1) We need some more “ticket sellers” for the pancake breakfast.
Tickets are only $5 and for those of you who have family or friends
with young children, what a way to have a fun breakfast at the Fire
Hall, with Horse and Carriages rides (also $5) and hear the lovely
trio of Gary Hamilton, Bryan Hamilton and Christie Burns playing their
famous pancake music. Please contact Ellen( a truly remarkable person)
at ellen...@gmail.com to arrange to pick up tickets to sell.
Proceeds from this event are being split between Habitat for Humanity
and The Southside Neighborhood Association for this and future Mainx24
events.

2) We still need volunteers for the following activities:
a. Day of help for parade (Contact Larry Means
souths...@excite.com or Chewonna Fletcher
fletc...@mail.chattanooga.gov
b. Jefferson Heights party They need volunteers to help with food and
games. Please contact Joel at onetho...@hotmail.com
c. Southside Habitat House Build -More details to be announced
3) Marketing PR- We could use assistance on the following:
a. Posters/Schedules/Coasters-
i. If you are a merchant in the neighborhood and don’t have this
information, please contact Elana
ii. If you have friends or support certain establishments outside the
South Side and they will display a poster, use our coasters, or
distribute schedules, please contact Elana or stop by to pick up at
Create Here’s office
b. Email Blast/Social networking- It would be most helpful for you to
send an email to your email list directing folks to the www.Mainx24.com
website.
c. The more everyone alerts their friends, family and neighbors about
Mainx24, the more chances we can expect larger crowds to enjoy our
great neighborhood.

Ok now for the good stuff. Here are several new events and/or details:

Chattanooga Times Free Press
1) Advertising —The Chattanooga Times News Press ran the first Mainx24
advertisement last Sunday and beginning next weekend, they will run
several more. Thanks to them for being a great sponsor!
2) Photo Contest- Details are being finalized but here’s what we
know. The Chattanooga Times Free Press is sponsoring a MAINx24 photo
contest. Participants can email their entries to the newspaper
directly during the day(email address to be furnished later) or will
be able to upload from a Chattanooga Times Free Press Terminal in the
lobby of the Clarke Center and they will be posted in real time. All
submissions will be due by Monday, December 8th at 5:00 pm. The public
will be allowed to vote on a "people's choice" from the top 20 photos
selected by the Chattanooga Times Photo staff from Tuesday, December
9th –Friday, December 12th. On Sunday, December 14th, the People's
Choice and the Editor's pick will be featured in the Sunday newspaper.
In addition, winners will receive cash and a collection of gift
certificates to numerous Southside merchants. (If you haven’t donated
gift certificates and wish to be part of the prizes offered, let us
know)Watch for more details to be announced!

Habitat House- When we starting the planning for Mainx24 we didn’t
know what to expect and there is no doubt that the enthusiasm turned
to real action. Topping the list for enthusiasm was Josiah Roe’s BIG
IDEA that the Southside Neighborhoods come together and build a
Habitat house. In short six weeks with the leadership of Josiah, Jeff
Cannon, Habitat for Humanity and numerous others, money has been
raised and the house is currently underway with the shell to be built
on the corner of main and market before being moved to its permanent
location in Jefferson Heights. Also, at 1:00pm on Mainx24 day, please
plan to drop by( at corner of Main and Market) for the official press
conference and meet our new neighbors, who will live in the Southside
Habitat House.
Finally, beginning next week, you will see the start of the house
being erected at the corner of Main and Market.
Inhabit party- If you haven’t been notified, details are now available
for the main late night/early morning event. http://inhabit.coptix.com
All proceeds will go to Habitat. Thanks Josiah!

Parade—The Southside Parade is shaping up to exceed everyone’s
expectations. Parade Participants include, the Mayor and Council
Members Rico and Pierce, County Commissioner Warren Mackey along with
the World Famous Howard High School Marching Band, followed by the
“soon to be world famous” Artech Marching Band, Elwood Smooch and the
Choo-Choo- Boogie show, Fire engines and Police cars, Old and antique
cars, the roller derby girls, the Battle Academy Choir, Motorcycle
clubs, The Alfonso world famous forklift, the Moc-train doubling as a
choo-choo train ,Mtn. Carmel Baptist Church ,Cornerstone
Presbyterian’s children’s float and Santa Claus in Horse Tram’s Horse
and Carriage.

So everyone knows and can make any necessary arrangements, Main Street
between Williams Street and Madison Street will begin closing at 10:00
am and will immediately re-open as the end of parade moves by each
intersection.

If you aren’t listed above and are planning to participate in the
parade let us know asap. If you are in the list above, details will be
sent to you next week with the specific info for day of the parade.

Marketing/PR
1) Billboards are up
2) Market Street News Letters are out and about
3) Posters are up and being distributed
4) Schedules and Coasters are out and about
5) Press Releases are being generated
6) TV and Radio shows are being scheduled
7) And as mentioned above, we need as much word of mouth as everyone
can do
8) If you have other ideas that you can help facilitate, please let us
know.

Schedule- While the printed schedules are complete, the web schedule
www.mainx24.com can be updated with more details or new events. This
week’s updates have been made and for next week, please have any
changes, new events or updates to Elana by Noon on Wednesday because
of Thanksgiving.

Additionally, we have maps and schedules being printed that will be
handed out the day of the event so all the newcomers to the Main
street area will be able to find the various 50 plus events.

Realtors/Open Houses--If you own property for sale or are agents with
listings in the neighborhood, it goes without saying that MAINx24 is
an unbelievable opportunity to schedule open houses.

THANKS- We want to thank everyone for all the great team effort. Your
participation has been overwhelming. We would like to also thank
Create Here, especially Elana and Christy for their strong efforts. As
we have previously discussed, our hopes are to transition this event
to a Chattanooga iconic event sponsored by everyone that works, lives,
plays and worships in the Southside Neighborhoods. If the past 6 weeks
is any indication, we are well on our way!

THANKS AGAIN!

Ken Hays David Hudson
