Hi all -

Picking up on a thread from another conversation... thinking this
might deserve it's own. I think we are all striving to make our waste
management as easy, and as functional, as possible! This tip from my
cousin out in Iowa who has been an Ag teacher and farmer for 30 years!
Give "deep litter method" a Google search and spend 10 minutes
reading... I'm only 3 weeks into it, but i think i'm a convert! Best
part is that you can totally do it in a coop with a wood floor.

I'll be interested to hear thoughts, experiences, etc.!
k.

Well, I have just been reading TONS on the "deep litter method" Thanks for the tip! I sometimes did it without knowingit but thought I was being lazy, just adding more shavings etc and now I'm thrilled that I was doing something right. And now, I will follow the advice more specifincally, adding DE etc. I do have compist bins and worm bins to which I add chicken poop and dirty hay...and I guess i can keep doing that.
Also thanks for the info on Huckleberyy Grove, we are planning a visit soon. But I do NOT want to come home with mroe beasties!! Will have to harden my heart first.
All the best to everyone...Alexandra
