Hello- I have the coop on High St across from Town Hall.
I thought the tour was a great success and alot of fun. thanks Andrew
for putting it together. I met a lot of great people!
And I met your wife last night at the Town Hall meeting!

hi Andrea and everyone! I visited most all of the coops except Narragansett H.S....
look forward to staying in touch with the rest of the group now. Us chicken people have to stick together!! Lucky we had such a beautiful weekend too. I was inspired by how CLEAN everyone's coop was...who has tips on keeping things cleaner? Besides knowing lots of people will come see it soon! Alexandra Kent

Hi Alexandra - it was so nice to meet you and your family. how are you
doing?
I think a droppings pit is a good thing to have - I don't have one -
but if you remember Lea Rubinstein's coop - her's has one. It makes it
really easy to clean because you don't have to scrape poop off the
floor.

we all enjoyed meeting you too. The girls would love to see Wendy again! Yeah, I don't have a droppings pit..don't think I saw Lea's coop but I have seen them...only trouble is, our coop already hasa double wood floor. Right now I have helped matters by getting some of those shallow plastic trays, like on the bottom of bunny cages, but you can order them different sizes, and I have them in the coop where they poop the most and then you can pick up the tray and dump it. But, still...oh well. Guess the next coop I build...although this lady in town, she had to put another layer of finer mesh on the floor with a cinder block layer because rats snaked their little paws up thru the holes to grab chickens' legs and kill them!! Yuck!! Anyway I want to spruce up our coop as it is. Maybe re-paint..add shingles (it's just plain plywood).. I dunno, I just want to have fun with it and make it a bit less..utilitarian. The girls painted chicknes on it but msot of it has worn off. Speaking of which - gotta get them to bed! We had a long day, were at the garden center in town's open house and brought the bunnies, the local farm bbrought 10 chicks and a bottlefed sheep on a leash! iT was fun. I also sold my bags and shirts...check out my website, alexandrakent.com. The young guy who bought the garden shop is really nice and we wanted to help him out....he wanted to attract kids so asked us to bring animals! It got a bit chilly but att least it didn't rain. Wow Alexandra, the paintings are amazing! And I can’t believe you are the person who made the chicken bag. I’ve been eyeing those at Allie’s forever. Now I will get myself one! I can’t wait to tell Lea.
I’m going to look into one of those trays you were talking about because I don’t have a droppings pit either. Good point about rats. I had a couple of parrots a few years ago and was keeping them on my front porch (at the house we lived in before). Rats got in. it wasn’t pretty. Haven’t seen any rats around here but I suppose they are here. Yuck.
Yes, bring the girls by anytime. Are your kids involved in 4-H? I’m thinking of signing Wendy up. My sister is involved in 4-H, but I’m still not sure how the whole thing works. I guess like girl scouts with animals.

Thanks Andrew...must admit I liked your green coop. My girls remember it too, we saw a lot of coops that weekend but all I have to say is "remember the green one?" and they know... we will do something bright and post pictures after. Should be by this summer! My mother is taking me and the girls to France in June... (she used to be a French teacher) so perhaps we will see some French chickens and their homes, for inspiration.
