For a moment, consider: cutting a 500 year old tree would take nearly 25 human generations to regrow, and take as long to recover the ecosystem. In the meantime with changing precipitation patterns we will see wash outs and stream water degradation.

For so many reasons we stopped cutting old growth.

Let's not go back.

Subject: Urgent: Speak out to stop plans to clearcut Western Oregon forests!

Reply-To: ol...@olcv.org

Martha,

Oregon's forests are under threat — and your voice is needed right now.

The Trump administration has announced plans to revise management of 2.5 million acres of public forests across western Oregon in order to dramatically increase logging levels.

If implemented, this proposal could open the door to widespread clearcutting across some of the most biologically rich forests in the Pacific Northwest. These forests provide habitat for species like coho salmon, marbled murrelets, and northern spotted owls, while also protecting clean drinking water, supporting recreation, and helping communities adapt to climate change.

The plan could:

Return logging levels to those not seen since the 1960s

Shrink protections for rivers and streams

Reduce safeguards for mature and old-growth forests

Prioritize timber production over wildlife, recreation, and clean water

Places many Oregonians know and love, including areas near the Molalla River, Marys Peak, Alsea Falls, and the Rogue River, could be impacted.

Right now, federal officials are accepting public comments on this proposal. This is one of the most important opportunities we have to push back.

Will you submit a comment today and tell decision-makers to protect our public forests, Martha?

Submit your comment

Submit your comment and share why these forests matter to you, whether it's a favorite hiking trail, wildlife habitat you care about, or the clean water they provide to communities across Oregon. The comment period ends on Monday, March 23rd.

Our forests belong to all of us. Together, we can make sure they are protected for future generations.

Thank you for speaking out,
