Dear South Corvallis Folks,
I will be taking an idea for another bike path which would avoid both the Chapman and Crystal Lake intersections with S. 3rd. to the CIP meeting on Thursday as well. This idea will not conflict with funding for fixing the Crystal Lake intersection. If any of you would like to support this idea, or run with it after this meeting, it would help the cause along. The proposed path is in an embryonic stage. I will be asking for funding for the Public Works Department to do a feasibility study including investigations and negotiations of land ownerships along the route.
After exiting the footbridge from downtown over the Mary's river, this bike path would turn left behind the old Hansen's tire building onto DOT land, go through the city land adjacent to the BMX track, cross Chapman Ave., go east of the Coop Meeting Room, south to cross the railroad tracks, and either go straight thru to Crystal Lake or follow east along the tracks to the city owned property at the millrace, then go thru the city property to crystal lake. (This option requires a bridge.)
I took this plan to the Bicycle Advisory Committee more than a year ago, and it is on their project list. The current City bicycle projects person, Jo Morgan, is working on this. I have spoken with Karen Emery, Director of Parks, and given her the maps. The Public Works Director, Steve Rogers, advised me to bring this to the CIP meeting.
I will support your work on CL and 3rd. St.
