Yesterday afternoon there was an unprovoked dog-on-dog attack on SE Thompson. The owner of the dog who was attacked emailed me with the information below and has asked that I share it on behalf of WDOG.  I  spoke with him both last night & this morning. Fortunately, his dog Dazy appears to be okay, however the owner has a wrenched shoulder from trying to save her.

The person who was walking the pit bull stopped by today to check on Dazy and apologize again. The dog is his son's.

The very real concern is that this dog was on leash but strong enough to get away from the owner. This was a dangerous situation. If you are in that area with your own dog and see this dog, it is recommended that you go the opposite direction.

Please be aware and alert when walking or biking, it is the safe and smart thing to do.

The following is the unedited email message:
"This evening at 4:15 pm my 8 y/o Lab,  Dazy, was attacked by a silver-gray pit bull while we were riding along SE Thompson.  The pit bull was being walked on leash on Thompson but had gone berserk when it saw Dazy as we departed Viewmont, so we turned south for our run.  On the return we saw the man and dog approaching on the west side of Thompson, so I hugged the curb on the east side.  The dog tore loose from the owner, crossed the street at full speed and attacked Dazy.  It took three adults and five minutes of tussling to get the pit bull off Dazy.  I took her straight to Willamette Vet where, miraculously, no punctures were found.  (I am more beat up than she from falling twice in our efforts to get the dog off Dazy.)

The attack was witnessed, I have reported it to Animal Control and will pursue the complaint.  The owner (on SE Richland) has reimbursed me for the emergency vet bill and hassle.

If you see this dog while you are out with yours, I recommend that you turn and get as much distance as you can."

I see this posting about an attack that apparently occurred the day after Christmas. Is this a new report or an old report about an incident that has been as resolved as possible? Is the threat and the issue ongoing?

I see no description of a dog that's to be avoided and perhaps what its owner looks like.

Thanks
