We have just returned from an attempt to go north on 3rd.  Looks like all northbound traffic is being diverted through Avery Park.

Fatal Traffic Crash – SE 3rd St

Corvallis, OR – At approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning, officers with the Corvallis Police Department responded to a fatal traffic crash on SE 3rd Street near SE Chapman Place.

A 55-year-old Corvallis resident was struck and killed by a northbound vehicle. The roadway was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and is expected to reopen within the hour.

This incident remains under active investigation. No additional details are being released at this time as investigators continue to gather information. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

That is pedestrian or cyclist death number 4! That stretch between CLD and the Mary’s River bridge is I believe the most hazardous in the Corvallis.

Not all of the incidents actually get reported.  It's more dangerous than it would seem by reviewing police reports.  A few years ago, a motorist failed to yield right of way and proceeded to hit me while I was on my bike.  It threw me and my bike into the travel lane.  Response came quick; they know it's a dangerous spot.  The first responder was a BCSO deputy.  She was expecting a grizzly scene.  My injuries were relatively minor.  CPD showed up and talked to the motorist and to me.  EMS showed up.  I was not transported, so there was no police report filed.  The motorist was not cited.

Be careful out there.
