Mark-

Thank you, your Dad, and Derek for saving these behemoths.

I notice in the photos that the power lines were on the north side of the street before it was widened.  I wonder why they were relocated to the south side of the street, where they are now vulnerable to those same saved trees, and the trees get mutilated to accommodate the lines.

The power lines were always on the south side. The one remaining tree in front of my house is good evidence of it because it has been topped to keep it out of the power lines. I don't know why the power company didn't keep topping it If you look at it it has three or four tops now about 30 ft up. If you look at the power poles now you will see that they put offset arms on them to put the wires further away from the trees . The pole you are seeing in the picture was to bring across the phone line and Powerline. like it stands today. And the one on your property. When the houses on the north side of the street were built and they did the street they put in the power Underground. There are no lines running from the power line across the street overhead. Except on your place and the one West of you. That house was put in there later than the others because it was supposed to have been a riparian Zone access for the city to mow. But somebody got a waiver and built a house on it that's why it didn't have the underground power to it. Mark w

It came to me that resurface of Alexander near the tree could compromise the roots if not done carefully and probably without intrusion like the asphalt grinders create.
I ride my bike over the humps in the current road and wouldn't mind them mellowed out but not if it compromises the root system.
