Hello DOTI Planners, Council Members, & RTD Board Member,

I saw & shared the current plans for the bit.ly/1stAveRedesign project & would like to provide feedback & voice my concerns.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DenverSouthCentral/comments/1qax8ca/1st_ave_redesign_update_with_nov_15th_meeting/

1st & University:
The Concept B Design will make the intersection much safer for everyone outside of a car to cross University. There is an RTD Bus stop near that location that people would likely use when heading south from Cherry Creek North. By eliminating the slip lane, we greatly reduce the risk for drivers to hit someone when turning right onto Southbound University Blvd.

1st & Downing/Corona:
I'm concerned that we aren't going far enough with the redesign at this intersection. I feel we need to completely eliminate the slip lane from Downing onto 1st Ave. Furthermore, we need to relocate the RTD Bus Shelters from Downing/Corona onto the overpasses themselves.

Here is a rough sketch of my suggestion over the existing plan.

Can we please make these suggestions happen?

Thank you in advance for your consideration!

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Why are none of the recommendations from page 51 with the overpasses being considered?
If it's due to funding or the need to wait for the bridges to be reconstructed, could we say that in the 1st Ave Redesign Plans?

Maybe add that the North/South RTD 12 Route bus stops will be relocated to the bridge when they're reconstructed.
I would still like to see the slip lane for turning right from Downing onto 1st Ave removed to add room for protection for riders waiting at the corner.

This was the email I was referring to regarding relocating the bus stops for the 12 route to the overpass and eliminating the slip lane from Downing onto 1st.

Is that going to happen?

If not, can someone please find out why?

To be clear, I'm requesting raised bus stop platforms similar to what was installed along 18th at Lawrence to protect riders while simultaneously making boarding easier.
This will also move the stops closer together for transfers.

Thank you,
Bryan Wilson

Thank you for the follow-up!

Has your office received any updates on the plans?

I don't see them at bit.ly/1stAveRedesign & emails I've received from others have indicated that there will be no more feedback accepted.

Thank you again for your help!

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Hi Bryan,
Thank you for following up and for continuing to share your feedback on the 1st Avenue redesign and the proposed changes around the Downing and Corona overpasses. We appreciate the time you’ve taken to review the plans and reference the recommendations in Denver Moves: Cherry Creek.
Councilwoman Flor Alvidrez supports efforts to improve safety and accessibility for transit riders, pedestrians, and cyclists along this corridor. Your suggestions regarding relocating the Route 12 stops to the overpasses, removing the slip lane from Downing onto 1st Avenue, and installing raised bus stop platforms are helpful ideas for the project team to consider.
Staff from DOTI are included on this thread and they can provide the most up-to-date information on whether these elements are being considered as part of the current design or future phases of the project, and whether factors like bridge reconstruction timing or funding may affect them.
Thank you again for your thoughtful engagement in the planning process. We appreciate residents who take the time to review proposals and provide detailed input.
Best,
Victoria Martinez
