Hello again,

I'm asking to set up a way to identify and address the issues with the completed Denver Moves: Cherry Creek plan.

Perhaps, Council Woman Sawyer can start this process at a future meeting with an rno, like the one scheduled for today.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Hello again,

I shared some videos of our ride to the Lowry Dog Park. It requires us to cross CO Blvd somewhere, so we took Bayaud this time...

Again, can someone please request some amendments to Denver Moves: Cherry Creek?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Hello Elizabeth, Nora, & the DOTI Advisory Board,

As you can see from the email thread below, I e been asking about the omissions from Denver Moves: Cherry Creek.
Can someone please find out when they will be addressed?

I've begun documenting them here:

I don't understand why these aren't being included in the plans.

Respectfully,

Hello All,

Please see the thread below about Denver Moves: Cherry Creek.
Is anyone addressing the omissions that I've pointed out?
What is the planned connection from the Cherry Creek Trail from through Cherry Creek, through Congress Park, and on to Denver East High School? This route must be as direct as possible.

Who is looking at the big picture & ensuring that we're connecting to planned & existing trails or greenways?

Again, seems like we need to go back & make some amendments to this plan & perhaps incorporate those amendments into other projects like the Colfax BRT & Crestmoor Park Projects.

You're welcome! Robin, I presume? Is the mobility person Bill Allen?
I still have questions...

- Was anyone asked how they access the shopping areas like Target or King Soopers?
I personally use Garfield to Bayaud to CO Blvd into DC Burns Park. No way would I ride this with children. Why wasn't Bayaud at CO Blvd included in Denver Moves Cherry Creek?
Denver Bike Directions: Colorado, Leetsdale & Bayaud from Cherry Creek to Hilltop on YouTube

- Was anyone asked how they might access restrooms along the Cherry Creek Trail?
There is NEVER a porta-potty available in the shelter along the CCT just West of CO Blvd in Takayama Park. Are we suggesting people who know about the restroom in Pulaski Park exit the CCT at Garfield to Cedar to Madison & back? Are we suggesting the same for people trying to access the park or playground?
Was anyone who uses this space asked how they get there & how it would be better for them?

- Why do we need FIVE (5) lanes, two entering & three exiting the Mall on Clayton to the South of 1st?
There is only ever one lane entering at a time so we could easily reduce that whole area by a lane & create an overlap or sharing of lanes like with the entrance off of University.
This will allow for bike lanes on each side of the road making it safer & more direct for riders traveling Northbound on Clayton.

- Does no one in your Neighborhood bike to the new Congress Park pool with a cargo bike or trailer? If so, how do they get there?
Every point of entry on the East side of the park has 90-degree turns &/or bottlenecks down to a narrow sidewalk.
Again, I feel the issue is that an entrance into Congress Park from Clayton was omitted from the plans forcing riders to make unnecessary & potentially difficult detours to the new playground & pool.

- Does no one in your neighborhood bike to the stores or the Cherry Creek Trail from Bayaud?
Once they reach the shared-use sidewalk along Steele, labeled the D13, how has their experience been dealing with drivers? At a minimum, we need clear bike signal upgrades for the shared-use sidewalk to include RED ARROWS for drivers turning off Steele & into the Mall area at Bayaud or Ellsworth. Again, I feel the issue is that the D13 seemed to be completely omitted from the plans.

- Does no one in your neighborhood bike to the bus on CO Blvd to have a bike when they get off the bus farther north or south?
How are they supposed to bike to Alameda & Madison to Alameda & CO Blvd? How are they supposed to bike to the shared-use sidewalk along the North side of Alameda that runs from CO Blvd all the way to Aurora?
Again, I feel the planned shared-use sidewalk planned for the North side of Alameda from Madison to CO Blvd was completely omitted from the plans.

I realize that the plans have been "adopted," but asking for a few amendments seems to be more than reasonable to make sure we do things right the first time.

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Who is he? Do they commute by bike?
His remarks don't come close to addressing the issues.

- Cherry Creek Trail Section along 1st
Seem insufficient to me & others who bike along that stretch. There is no plan for a physical protection of riders from drivers. Compare the plans to the current raised median. Why not install a raised tree lawn to serve as a barrier? Basically take the soil from the median that will shrink & move it to the tree lawn to protect riders.
- Bike Lane on Clayton South of First
I'm aware of the bike lane, but it is 2-way which will result in north bound riders getting picked off by drivers entering & exiting the road planned with the Cherry Creek West Development. I know from experience riding along Steele St at Bayaud & again at Ellsworth. Those same riders then have to make two 90-degree turns at 1st, which is difficult & perhaps impossible for riders with children or dogs in trailers. Seems reasonable to me to eliminate one vehicle travel lane on 1st for bike lanes on each side of Clayton.

- We already have an Alameda bike crossing at Garfield...
Not even sure what that solves. What about Madison to Garfield & Madison across Alameda to the Cherry Creek Trail & future bridge? Meanwhile drivers get to go pretty much everywhere else.
https://www.instagram.com/p/DGqnTAgxLJK/

- I know secure storage should be in discussions with developers. Who is doing that? My point is that I don't see the secure storage in any plans from any of the developers.

- I know "they" spent two years working on this matter, but a number of key issues were missed by "them." I tried engaging but was ignored during the process.
I've begun documenting them on this Google Doc
- D13 was completely omitted along Steele St
- Bayaud at CO was omitted
- Alameda from CO Blvd to Madison was omitted
- D13 crossing 1st at Saint Paul was omitted
- Access into Congress Park at 8th was omitted

Who will address these issues & who will be liable when there is a crash?

Go back & talk to them again. I'm going to keep pushing on these issues.

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Bryan, I spoke with someone on our board who focuses on Mobility issues. His remarks are as follows:
The Cherry Creek Trail section East of University on First, is a known problem and is addressed in the Speer/Leetsdale BRT plan.  Of course, the elephant in the room is the Denver Country Club's unwillingness to build a trail along the creek through their property.
A bike lane on Clayton South of First connecting to the Cherry Creek Trail is part of the Cherry Creek West development.
We already have an Alameda bike crossing at Garfield.
Secure storage and separate entrances for bike riders into developments should be included in discussions with developers as Denver's authority ends at the end of the sidewalk.
We spent two years working on this matter with significant public input.

I think the connection along Alameda was a a pretty big omission that needs to be addressed.
I'll have to see if I can find my communications about the Alameda Corridor with DRCOG.

I hope we can come together to address these issues instead of just ignoring them because the plan was "finalized" & "approved."

Thank you again for your response.
Are you saying that you don't also perceive these to be issues?
Frankly, I disagree & find it to be unacceptable.
As for the participation process, I did the best I could with the online feedback forms. Part of the issue, I feel, is how the various Steering Committee Members & Stakeholders were selected. I don't see Congress Park represented.

I'll have to go back through my emails to see what specific suggestions I sent outside of the online feedback forms. Bottom line, these are SIGNIFICANT issues that I feel need to be addressed if we're going to work towards our Vision Zero & Climate Action goals.

Also, was the Cherry Creek West Development even part of the process, because it needs to be...
https://cherrycreekwest.com/
I understand that DOTI adopted the plan, but there is still ample time to suggest amendments & then approve them. It will be much easier to correct these issues now.
I look forward to hearing from someone from your office or Denver Moves Cherry Creek to set something up.

Bryan Wilson

Hi Bryan,

The Denver Moves Cherry Creek process was a two year process that involved significant amounts of community feedback via surveys, meetings, and stakeholder conversations. I appreciate that you may personally feel that changes need to be made, but the community has spoken. Your opportunity to engage was two years ago while that process was happening. DOTI has completed the process and adopted the plan.

Thanks

Best Wishes,
