Hello,

As someone who will occasionally bike or walk from the Alamo Placita Park area to the Cherry Creek Trail, I would like to request that the plans for the Emerson St Neighborhood Bikeway to be adjusted.

If we future plan for a shared-use sidewalk, or cycle track, I think we can also eliminate the need for a protected bike lane North of 1st on Emerson St & continuing onto Clarkson St.

Here is a rough sketch of what I'm suggesting.
(Adjusted a screen shot of the Denver Moves: Bikes update.)

I feel it's important to keep riders out of the roadway at Speer Blvd & Clarkson, as it is a dangerous intersection.

We can then plan to widen the bridge over the Cherry Creek Trail OR plan to add a bike & pedestrian only bridge like is planned at 10th Ave at some point in the future.

Is this something that can be discussed with the people that walk & bike through the area?
I utilized that connection riding from Broadway to Emerson along 1st Ave & then crossing over the Cherry Creek Trail on the sidewalk.

Thank you in advance!

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Hi Bryan,

DOTI can speak to this better than I can, but I believe there are plans for the bike lane to cross Speer on Clarkson/Emerson and then immediately take 3rd Ave eastbound to Emerson. Maybe you are already familiar with those plans and requesting that they change, I'm not sure.

My understanding is that these designs must go through several layers of bureaucracy and engineering review, and realigning part of a bikeway at this stage would probably not be practical.

I'd love to see some drawings of the plans from DOTI regarding this segment though, as they can, of course, speak with more authoritative information than I can.

Greg Cieciek at DOTI might be a good resource for this. I CC'd him and removed some of the other recipients. This part of the bikeway is in District 7, not 5.

Thank you for paying attention and getting involved.

Yes, I'm requesting that they're adjusted to connect Spear Blvd at Emerson for direct access to the Cherry Creek Trail & then also eliminate the plans for the bike lane since it won't be necessary.

I rode 1st to Emerson last week & that was the route I took.
It will also better connect riders to/from the Cherry Creek Trail.

If you could ask them about this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Bryan Wilson
