GENERAL TRAINING ANNOUNCEMENT

NJTIM

September 18, 2024

New Jersey Traffic Incident Management Train-the-Trainer

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and partner organizations are hosting multiple deliveries of a one day, eight-hour, Train-the-Trainer course for New Jersey Traffic Incident Management (NJTIM) which also covers the New Jersey Traffic Incident Management Guidelines for Emergency Responders. There is NO-COST to attend this training.

Description

Every minute of every day, incident responders put their lives at risk responding to traffic incidents. Traffic incidents are unplanned roadway events that affect or impede the normal flow of traffic. Traffic incidents increase the likelihood of secondary crashes and pose a threat to the safety of incident responders as well as all road users. The New Jersey Traffic Incident Management (NJTIM) Responder Training Program was developed by responders for responders, and is designed to establish the foundation for and promote consistent training of all responders to achieve the three objectives of the Traffic Incident Management (TIM) National Unified Goal (NUG) and the New Jersey Traffic Incident Management Safety Guidelines for Emergency Responders:

•   Safety of Responders and All Road Users
•   Safe, Quick Clearance
•   Communication, Coordination, and Cooperation

The Train-the-Trainer (TtT) course is intended to provide participants (i.e., trainers) the knowledge and materials necessary for them to conduct TIM training for emergency responders in their organization and statewide. The TtT is an 8-hr course that covers the training material delivery and administration of classes using NJTIM.org. Once trainers have completed the TtT course, they will have the resources to train others in the multi-disciplinary course and assist other disciplines in their delivery.

This course is approved for the following Continuing Education Units:

New Jersey Division of Fire Safety – Instructor - 0.25 CEUs (Technical)
New Jersey Department of Health OEMS – EMT - 4 CEUs (Elective)

Target Audience

Traffic incident responders include emergency medical service (EMS), transportation and public works, fire and rescue, law enforcement, towing and recovery, dispatchers, OEM, and other professionals who support traffic incident management. It is preferred, but not required, that attendees of this Train-the-Trainer have a minimum of ICS 200 training, 5+ years’ experience in their discipline, previous instructor training experience, 4-hour FHWA or NJTIM class, and a commitment to teaching the multidisciplinary TIM training.
Attendee(s) must acknowledge approval by their sending agency to attend the course. Attendee(s) agree to instruct a minimum of one (1) New Jersey Traffic Incident Management (NJTIM) for Emergency Responders per calendar year to remain a credentialed instructor.
