I'm looking forward to being home and tuning in with what Maui is calling for in terms of a gathering.
I love that we come to this with vast experience on the island and really all of Hawaii with interactive art festivals-- and community activation.
In a way I feel like this is an opening to talk about all the groups that have been influenced by SOURCE. I think about some of the most engaged events on the island and come up with TEDx, Maui Makers, artMixx, and of course all new extensions of SOURCE now that we are connected more with Burning Man. SOURCE has been connected and working with what I consider the most potent Maui groups that engage the human spirit and seek a shared abundance of fulfilling lives and expressed meaningful art.
We are an important part of this island's modern culture.
There are so many groups that have spawned from SOURCE or at least been influenced that it's difficult to come up with them all without knowing many have been left off a proverbial list. Certainly we can't assume credit, and would never know what would have happened if we had never started 7 years ago to create something many said would never work.
Perhaps island renaissance is far too strong a word, but I do know that when I arrived on the island almost ten years ago, there was nothing sustained that was like this.
I see a good moment for introspection. Event an audit. Connecting with all the activated people we know that share our interest for an alive and prosperous island seems appropriate. Let's find out what the island is calling forth. Maui style.
I look forward to hearing over the next month what people, SOURCERS and beyond, are interested in creating next.
