Aloha Sourcers!

I have a project that I think some of you would be VERY interested in. I'm working with an amazing group of people to help re-open GIGGLE HILL. We all know & love this park. It's grass roots now, but coming on strong! We're receiving help from Maui County, Parks and Recreations and Haiku Community Association for re-opening funds, and I am managing future fund-raising/ community events.
With some love, sweat & tears we can potentially have the park re-opened in the coming months!

What we're looking for right now is a strong volunteer building crew and, let's face it, who knows how to build better than the Source Crew?

We're having a work day on October 12th starting at 9am.
The objective of this event is to clear weeds, clear old mulch & begin a Keiki Garden, as well as do evaluation for future repairs and projects.

If you are interested, please show up with:
Bells on!
Work clothes, boots gloves, etc.
Water container (water will be provided, as well as some dank pizza from FLATBREAD!)
Shovels, weed whackers, rakes, old tarps, wheel barrows, etc.

We'll bump some music, bring some snacks & ROCK THE PARK!!!

We'll also be taking CC donations on site, so ya know ;)

I would love to see  any or all of you there!
I think that Source would be proud to leave a great mark on this playground & help keep it alive for future generations <3

BTW ....We would also like to stress that this is a KID FREE work day, meaning, we'll have access to the play ground and will be using weed whackers & shovels & such. It's just not safe to have kids on the playground until we make it safe for them.
Mahalo!

Aloha Sara and everyone.
I agree with Sara That this is indeed a worthy cause. I hope many people can be there to lend a helping hand.

I do need to request that, The verbiage is used a tad differently.
Source itself is not sponsoring the work day.....
People who go to Source are possibly helping out.

Because this is a county issue with the playground. Source can have no affiliation to it.

Also this group isn't for this that are not Source Related. I understand that it's to ask for help from Sourcers, But we have forms of Media for that.

I believe in the Cause but please be careful about Connecting Source to Personal Causes.

Love you all. Hope you can be there
Bryan

Aloha all,

Could someone point out to me where this was worded to be a Source
sponsored event? I read a request from Sara for help from, and for,
our community that is more than a personal endeavor as it serves the
bettering ov recreational environments for our children. While yes it
is not a Source related event, we see many requests come from people
to help fund raise their own needs to attend events and make art that
is destroyed in celebration under the banner ov Source for their
personal endeavors. Spending money on materials and energy to use in a
celebratory actions could maybe go to those such as children who need
it to grow as well. These things are what count, and are truly
sustainable as we are investing in our future and not just a temporary
experience though those temporary experiences are what inspire us to
do better in a less than sane world.

So someone please help me understand why this request from someone
within our scene ov Source is not okay when it is okay to ask for help
for personal gain for things are not sustainable such as good times
and hedonism (which I like!). Further Source claims to be community
oriented (something which the community ov Maui tends to question) but
yet we are censuring someone's request to help the community we live
in and the children ov many people who are part ov Source.

Make no mistake for my love and interest ov Source, or I wouldn't take
time to address this or even remain on this forum and back our friend
Ben Holt's vision. I just believe that we should follow our own talk
ov being community oriented and not be exclusively self-serving.
Coming from the perspective ov an accused wolf in sheep's clothing,
then the sheppard shouldn't starve the lambs because that will only
defeat us all. Please pardon the personal analogy, but serious give
this message a good thought.
Regards,

Jerry Ricks

this email list is advertised as:

"Welcome to the meeting/planning group for SOURCE- Maui's interactive arts festival. Please keep all posts SOURCE related. "

Brian is simply reminding people of this. There are other groups and web/fbook pages for our greater ohana to involve each other in Maui (and other) events/activities.

Aloha.

Aloha All,

I wasnt trying to Stop anything or any event. I myself will be there to help work. And am going to try to rally as many hands as I can.
I was giving a reminder that this forum needs to be event related. Thats all. It has been missed used by many including me in the past and i am only trying to give a reminder that we should not do that.

Thank you Jerry for the reiteration ov the mission for this group.

Brian that wasn't a thought...you balking at Sara's idea.

My point is that why not use this and all our mediums for all our
causes and interests. Many people are not on facebook or the website.
In fact some people are only on this group thread. So perhaps we
should look at this and the other mediums' scopes and open them up to
be broader. This will allow for more transfer ov data amongst the
community who have different varied methods for staying in the loop.
Peace.

So perhaps what I just stated should have been all I initially wrote
as that is the real scope ov my issue. My bad. Have a nice day!

You are absolutely right. As well as this is an A bad place to post. At our next meeting let's discuss are mediums of communication and what is ok and what is not and where. Because you are correct some people are only on the Google Groups. Thank you for bringing up very important points. Let's address in together as a group.

Sorry folks, didn't mean to stir the pot so much, just thought it would be a great way for Sourcers to do some good in the community :) Thanks for all the feed back! I did try posting to FB, but it was deleted by the admin. Not sure where to post, I thought FB page was an open forum.

well it was getting a tad bit dull eh?
yes yes, the ORIGINAL intention from years and years ago, when our SOURCE forefathers and mothers (and yes SOURCE is always ALL CAPS) was that this email list would only be for SOURCE related communication.

despite the dry spell (send more updates you amazing SOURCE CORE crew), we can all imagine what happens when we start to use this list outside its intention. to be blunt, it blows the fuck up.

so hey-- while i'm here and might have your ear--- what about some themes for next february's gathering? i do like the idea of SYMPOSIA.... symposium, discussion, connection...

we are on the cutting edge my friends! interactive art! festival culture! these are things the NYTIMES is just beginning to hear about.

thanks for making the future awesome.

love,
Gabe
