City of Water Day
July 16, 2022

City of Water Day is a region-wide day to raise awareness about the risk we all face from sea level rise and climate change, and champion a climate resilient New York and New Jersey harbor. In Your Neighborhood programming is organized by the New York–New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP) and offers dozens of events on and near the water across all five boroughs, New Jersey, and Westchester. Read on to learn more about In Your Neighborhood events, grant opportunities, and Art at the BlueLine.

City of Water Day
In Your Neighborhood Events

In Your Neighborhood events are hosted by organizations throughout the region on City of Water Day to raise awareness about the climate crisis and the intersecting themes of coastal resilience, waterfront access, and the region’s maritime culture and history.

For a limited number of participating organizations, HEP can provide funding support ranging between $1,000-$4,000. This support can be used for costs associated with producing City of Water Day In Your Neighborhood events. Grants are prioritized for programs serving environmental justice and higher-need communities.

To be considered for small grant support, please register your In Your Neighborhood event by June 8, 2022 and remember to note your request for funding in the space provided. Grant funding is provided by EPA and private donors through the New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program and Hudson River Foundation.

Art at the BlueLine

The call for climate action continues, with Art at the BlueLine in Lower Manhattan’s Seaport. The Howard Hughes Corporation® returns as this year’s presenting sponsor, and we are proud to partner with the South Street Seaport Museum. Three climate artists will present their works at the BlueLine—the future high tide line—to collectively highlight the risk we all face from sea level rise and coastal storms. More than one million people in our region face direct risks from coastal flooding today and our goal is that art can offer a lens into the realities of climate change, coastal resilience, waterfront access, and environmental justice.
