Spring 2012 It's My Park Day a Success

Astoria Park AllianceThank you to all who participated in another successful It's My Park Day!

Last Saturday, May 19, more than 6,700 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and helped beautify neighborhood parks as part of It’s My Park Day. Partnerships for Parks, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and dozens of community groups and volunteers citywide, came together for Parks’ largest volunteer day.

Nearly 200 community organizations and agencies contributed their time to improve and to celebrate New York City’s parks. This spring, volunteers completed 170 projects in over 150 locations across the city, working to clean, paint, weed and plant, as well as enjoy free fitness activities, arts & cultural events, and games.

Announcing: Rebecca Fuller IMPD Photo Contest Winner!

Congratulations to all the volunteers who submitted photos for the It’s My Park Day “Volunteers in Action” Photo Contest that ended May 25.  Our winner of the $100 Home Depot gift card - with 144 LIKES on the PfP Facebook page - was Rebecca Fuller, who sent in pictures from a planting and beautifying project at St. Marks Children's Playground in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.  Over 6,700 New Yorkers came out to volunteer for Spring IMPD!  So that we don’t have to wait until next IMPD to see what’s happening in your park, stay in touch by sending in photos any time to the PfP Facebook page!

Also, Thanks to all the groups who participated in our fun IMPD recruitment videos, where we asked one group from each borough to share why volunteers should visit their IMPD project.  Volunteers from the 45th and 46th Street Block Associations (Manhattan), Astoria Park Alliance (Queens), Friends of Kaiser Park (Brooklyn), Friends of Soundview Park (Bronx), and Historic Tappen Park Community Partnership (Staten Island) performed like true stars and we had an awesome time filming them.  You can watch all the videos by visiting the PfP Facebook page.  And feel free to post and share videos from your group’s clean-up, beautifying, and planting events to the PfP Facebook page any time.  We love to watch them!

Mark your calendars for October 20 for the fall 2012 It’s My Park Day.
