| | Hey New York! We are counting down to opening night in Central Park! The free season of Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage begins this Saturday, rain or shine, at 7 PM with the legendary jazz musician Herbie Hancock performing at SummerStage for the first time ever, presented with Blue Note Jazz Festival. Hancock has remained a mainstay in jazz music in the six decades he has been behind the keys. He has won an Oscar® and several GRAMMYs® through his work that broke the mold on what the genre could sound like. He’s joined by trumpeter Keyon Harrold, called by Wynton Marsalis “the future of the trumpet.” Pushing the genre’s boundaries by folding in hip hop and R&B, Harrold has established himself as a force in the New York jazz scene and is a Charlie Parker Jazz Festival alum. The night will get started with two SummerStage alums: producer Pete Rock will DJ and dancer Asha “DaHomey” Griffith will perform. If you can’t make it, we’ll be exclusively livestreaming Hancock and Harrold's performances for free, one-time only that night on SummerStageAnywhere.org. | |
