New York City Neighborhood Naturalists Monthly Meeting
Monday, June 13 @ 5 PM ET
This month's talk will be presented by
Dr. Monica Palta (Pace University) on her work with urban waterways and "accidental" wetlands. Dr. Palta is an urban ecosystem ecologist and wetland biogeochemist. For the last 15 years, she has conducted research in wetland, river, and stream systems in
the northeastern, southeastern, and southwestern United States. The central focus of her work is on interactions between human infrastructure and activity and ecosystem functions and associated ecosystem services in aquatic ecosystems. Her research has investigated
the effects of dams on floodplain tree productivity and nitrogen removal (via microbial denitrification) in urban wetland ecosystems. Her current focus is on investing a range of ecosystem services and disservices related to water quality in urban waterfronts
and wetlands.
