Hello fellow Sound Miner users.

Does anyone know of a way to share VST Rack Presets between computers?

Thanks for your help,
Peter

I'm not sure where exactly they are stored, but I bring the entire Soundminer Support folder with me in freelance mode and they follow me wherever I go.

I believe:

/Users/(your user name)/Library/Application Support/Soundminer

Look for a file called "vstpresets.xml"

They used to be in a PLIST file which was easier to deal with (i.e. easier copy / paste)

I had to manually edit this file recently because my list of presets had gone off the screen. And in order to delete a preset in SM you first have to load it.

So a feature request would be to have the VST list managed differently, and each preset stored as a separate file in the Finder.  This would make managing/sharing/deleting them so much easier.

While we're on the subject... this functionality desperately needs a folder hierarchy system. Long lists of presets serves nothing but sloppy workflow. Let me organize the darned things by projects and it would be infinitely more useful to me.

Agreed.  The ability to read nested folders of presets would be great, so we could have project / categories / sub-categories / sub-sub categories.....

FWIW - the best thing to happen to my VST rack in a long time has been MAGMA from Nomad Factory, due to it's "VST Chainer" rack.  Technically you can load up to 128 VST plug-ins on a single SM VST slot.  But more then the amount, is the flexible routing and modular design of it's matrix.  It also does individual-file preset storage, so its presets can be managed at the Finder level better.  It doesn't support nested folders though.

I like Magma as well, but how does it handle multichannel (more than stereo) routing?

That's a good question - no idea!  I never process anything over 2 CH.

Interesting. Can you automate plugin parameters within Magma?

sort of yes.  You can have it do LFO's, sweeps etc. to automate parameters

With SM4.5 ability to use Flac, I am a bit worried about the issues that I can't use quick look in the finder on them, and can't drag them directly to PT (I can do this with MP4 lossless)

Anybody found a solution to playing Flac files using Quick Look ?

Are you guys using Nomad as a shell for VST plugs inside PT11 with any success? Seems like an awesome way to wrap all of the stragglers who haven't yet ported to AAX, but does it work solidly?

Try out the new Blue Cat MB7 mixer as well, which can hosts VST's
They just released a new instrument wrapper today as well.

Yes, but it will only host 64-bit VST's in a 64-bit environment, won't help with older 32-bit plugins that haven't made it over.

Does the BlueCat mixer host 32bit plugs?
What is this new instrument wrapper you speak of, Charles?

Just tested and looks like BlueCat MB-7 Mixer 2 requires 64-bit VST plugins as well. I think I prefer Nomad for hosting VST's, it's a bit more elegant solution. Not sure what this other instrument wrapper is though. Do you use VEPro?

Yeah, I use VEP, which works great for VIs. The main thing I'm looking for is a wrapper for Altiverb/Speakerphone which I don't want to use through VEP... I use it very liberally, on most of my AUX busses, so I gotta figure out a solution before I can fully switch over. Anyone hear anything from AudioEase on this one?
