It is possible on Soundminer v4 and v4 Pro.  Not sure about HD Basic.  The way to try it is to select multiple files, and then command-I, (Edit Metadata).

SM v4 is worth every penny, by the way.  You might consider demo'ing that too.

What are the main advantages of V4 over HD +?

Having never used HD, I can't tell you.  But reading this makes it clear to me that I have to have V4 for what I do: http://store.soundminer.com/product-tour/

Note that there's no risk buying HD since you can upgrade to V4 for the difference in price.  (and no, I don't work for the company :)  )
