Distance between points to assess traffic

Dear Group.

I am analyzing the traffic in a forest area. Tools like opeNoise from QGIS (method NMPB'96) allow me to consider a line shp for the road. To evaluate with SMT (Sound Mapping Tools) I am considering using a sequence of points. My question is, is this approach correct? If it is, at what distance between points should I consider?
