A recording orchestra of 37 musicians, the Film Scoring Studio Orchestra will integrate and improve orchestral performance skills in an actual Hollywood-style scoring stage setting. A collaboration between the Ensemble, Music Production and Engineering, and Film Scoring departments, the orchestra will meet in Studio 1 of the 160 Massachusetts Avenue building. Each week the ensemble will play music composed by professional film composers or Berklee Film Scoring students, and be recorded by Berklee students in related MP&E classes. Through participation in film scoring sessions in a state-of-the-art scoring stage venue, students will improve their overall efficiency of sight-reading, technique, rhythm (including click track competency), intonation, articulation, style orientation, and ensemble-centered production (listening/response sensitivity).

A studio orchestra is an orchestra that exists only for the purpose of studio recording. That is, it does not perform in public concerts or for audiences generally. Studio orchestras are typically run by movie and television studios to produce film and television soundtrack recordings. Nearly all easy listening orchestras are studio orchestras. Some famous easy listening studio orchestras are the 101 Strings, the Living Strings, and the Hollyridge Strings. In pop music of the 1960s, studio orchestras were commonly assembled by record producers and songwriters like Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, and Burt Bacharach.

This sound package contains top-of-the-line recordings of a string ensemble by esteemed virtual instruments creators at Orchestral Tools, a leading creator of premium symphonic sample collections. Here you'll find various articulations and notes of plucks, sustained bows and accents, already organized into categories like Pizzicato and Tremolo in the Bitwig Sampler. They're also incorporated into creative presets that use Note FX devices and other forms of processing to make composing with these string sounds easy.

The samples included in Orchestral Strings were recorded on the scoring stage at the famous Teldex Studio in Berlin, one of the world's preeminent classical music recording studios thanks to its historic location on the site of an 1890 concert venue, its unique collection of vintage microphones and legacy of engineering expertise. Germany's top orchestras have performed and recorded at this location since the building was constructed as a concert venue for groups like the Berlin Philharmonic in 1890 and then its post-War days as Teldec Studios.
