Hello,

I'm compiling a bibliography of fiction, plays, film in which sound engineers as characters are featured or involved. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Nicole

Hello,

This seems very interesting, good idea!! I guess the recent "Berberian Sound Studio" qualifies for your research. But only sound engineers are allowed? I mean, I'm not sure, but films like "Blow Out" or "The Conversation", whose characters are not really engineers but both deals with technicals aspects of recording and editing sounds, maybe deserve some kind of mention.

Cheers,
Rodrigo Carreiro

Hi folks:

Just a nudge that when you do compile a bibliography, would you be willing to share it so I can add it to our site bibliography?

Thanks so much!

One of my favourite examples is Kiyoshi Kurosawa's 2000 film "Séance (Kôrei)", in which a production sound recordist comes back from a late night field recording session with more than just a tape of clean wind sounds in his gear box.

Also: Peter Sasdy's 1972 BBC production of "The Stone Tape", in which a group of engineers move their lab into a haunted mansion to work on inventing a new recording medium to replace magnetic tape.  Hilarity ensues.

I second Meryl's request for access to your bibliography once compiled.

All the best,

Randolph.

hi,
that's a great idea!

there is a list of tape recorders featured in movies here:
maybe that could help...

also on that list should be:
"Flughunde" (1995) (english: "The Karnau Tapes" (1997))  by Marcel Beyer

I'd be interested in that list, too. maybe you could post it online?

Thank you for all the great suggestions. I'll be sure to post the full list once I finish up grading and end term comments.

Best,
Nicole
