All downloads aborting on Windows 10

Xfinity users please note: Users on Xfinity are reporting that they're able to get their Soulseek downloads to stop aborting by turning off the advanced security feature on their connection. Please see this reddit thread for more information. If you're not an Xfinity user, please read on.

If you've recently started experiencing all of your downloads aborting on Windows, please try the following (I'll be updating this thread and this list with new possible solutions):

  1. Run SoulseekQt in administrator mode. Find SoulseekQt in your start menu, right-click it and choose 'Run as administrator'
  2. Try Soulseek NS, the old generation client, just to see if the problem is specific to SoulseekQt or if it's something else: http://www.slsknet.org/slsk157NS13e.exe
  3. If possible, update your Windows 10 to the latest version (1909, see below for checking your Windows 10 version)
  4. Temporarily disable your antivirus/malware software while you run SoulseekQt
In reporting your results, please specify:
  1. Which of the above suggestions you've tried and whether any of them made a difference
  2. What your randomly generated SoulseekQt listening port is (visible in the Options->Login tab)
  3. Which version of Windows 10 you're using (latest is 1909, you can find yours through Start->Settings->System->About)
  4. Which antivirus/anti-malware software you have running
  5. Who is your ISP

Hi there twostep, are you able to update your Windows to 1909 to see if it makes a difference? It should be available if you check for updates.

OK here are three more builds you can try out. They're all 32-bit, compiled with the newest LTS version of Qt and using the latest version of the Inno installer:
  1. This one is built with Visual Studio instead of MinGW: SoulseekQt-2020-3-12-vs2017-qt5-12-7.exe
  2. Using MingW as usual, but also the latest Qt: SoulseekQt-2020-3-12-mingw-qt5-12-7.exe
  3. Mingw and latest Qt, but obfuscation port is disabled: SoulseekQt-2020-3-12-mingw-qt5-12-7-no-obfuscation.exe
Let me know if any of these work for you, and please also specify:
  1. Which of the suggestions from the top post in this thread you've tried and whether any of them made a difference
  1. What your randomly generated SoulseekQt listening port is (visible in the Options->Login tab)
  2. Which version of Windows 10 you're using (latest is 1909, you can find yours through Start->Settings->System->About)
  3. Which antivirus/anti-malware software you have running
  4. Who is your ISP

    Hope you are well, safe, and healthy.
    In rgds to the ongoing situation, in my particular case, I've tried several builds as per recomendations from you, from the latest build to older versions (2019-2018) as well. All give me the same problem, every single download is aborted. 

    I use a dell inspiron 5570 laptop x64 based system with 16 gb of internal memory with a Intel core processor i7 7500U CPU @ 2.70 Ghz 2.90 Ghz, and ST hard drive w/ 1 tb with 112 gb available still left, and Win 10 version  1909 build 18363. 720.

    My router is working fine, no issues with it.

    Don't know the cause of the problem, but I am convinced it has to do with latest win 10 updates. Has anyone tried going back to previous versions of win 10?

    Pls excuse me, I forgot to mention in my previous email that I use windows defender as my anti virus, I just turned it off to see if it makes any difference-will get back to you again with the result/reply.

    I have too problems with the Soulseek. I have windows 10 and I start to serch with the program my internet stops working.
    And I results DNS Client Events 1014.
    I don't know how to solve this

    Nir, you are absolutely correct that the solution for Xfinity users is to turn off the advanced security option. This was driving me crazy because after literally hours on the phone with Xfinity (your app's name never came up, btw) and them assuring me that what I was seeing wasn't what I was seeing, I got frustrated, turned them off (I still have other security) and restarted soulseek. BOOM! Back to working order.

    Well, after much frustration about the downloading issues I discovered on the trasfer tab under downloads that at the bottomthat my "limit download speed" box was checked and limited to 1 kb.Unchck.Working fine.I don't remember checking that box.

    Something i noticed is that if your shared folder is external and SSD you will have this problem. Im trying to see if this is true for the downloads folder. one i finish downloading ill report back. lol

    Ok so here is what I tried. This only started yesterday.

    1) I was running Windows 1903 when the problem occurred so I updated to 1909 and NO DIFFERENCE
    2) I use AVG but there has never been an issue. I turned it off and still did not work
    3) I tried older Soul Seek clients and still the same problem
    4) The port I am using 55316 (never had issue with it)
    5) Using Netgear (Optimum)
    6) I've always used an external drive and never had a problem with it

    This seems to be a big issue. I literally use Slsk every day. This can't be happening!!! Please help Nir Abel

    LOL! No worries. Happens to us all. I am using WD My Passport 1TB and a 12 year old laptop and have no problems myself, but others cannot upload. I haven't seen a finished upload yet. I am hoping to fix this with the next laptop which I will be getting real soon.

    I'm quite new to ssk so when my downloads started aborting I didn't have a clue why, still don't.
    I have gone through the settings and all looks fine. I've tried without VPN & antivirus.
    Tried sytem restore.
    NOTHING.

    I can't download and people cannot upload.
    I have even tried deleting ssk and re installing.
    NOTHING.

    Please help

    i am not new to Slsk but the latest version does not work the same as i am used to it working.
    when i used to d/l a file it would tfr to my musicd/l file as artist andsong title.  with the latest version
    it transfers as a user file, i open and it shows the folder info, open that it shows the artist, open that it
    shows song title.  all in separate files, impossible to work with.  what's going on?

    This one is easy. Go into your options then file sharing. Check the boxes that say " dont create subfolders, downloads , username etc..."

    Soulseek QT.
    Starting to get crazy now.
    Been using ssk for a few months without any issues then the other day for no reason all downloads abort.
    I also get the no files to share message but people are uploading from my sharing file.
    I've tried to reinstall ssk, reboot my router, change ports, restore point on PC etc.
    There are a few diiferent ideas forwarded by other ssk users, unfortunately none have worked for me.
    Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

    thank you, thank you, you are a genius my friend, works like a charm!!
    no idea how that got changed, must have just happened in the update.
    is there anything else i need to know about the checked or unchecked boxes
    to make things work better?  i appreciate any help you might have to offer.

    When I try to download ALL are ABORTED almost immidiatly , however uploads to users are working ?

    I have checked port forwarding relentlessly, I think I am connected correctly.

    I dont know what version of SS I am using , is it possible to restore COMPLETLEY and reinstall a suggested /preferred option ?

    For the past 4 to 5 days, after five minutes of operation, the application has been consuming 15% of the processor and does not close. This happens without any searching or downloading.
    A new installation did not change anything.

    2019.07.22 ran without any problems for months under windows 10 1809.

    eset smart security 13.1.21
    isp : free
    port : 53725

    Have you recently encountered such a problem?

    Hi Nir, i too have been struggling with this same problem, all files either endup being aborted or held suspended in an eternal que.

    Ive try all of your recomendations but sadly to no success, any other solutions assistants would be highly apreciated for im at my whits end

    I've recently changed my windows laptop, and am getting aborted on every download.

    I followed your steps and tried running as administrator and it's downloading fine.

    So what is the answer for running under normal profile?

    Windows 10
    AVG Anti-Virus, have made SS an allowed app
    Nord VPN

    I've checked the port and it says that it isn't open.

    I have been having the same problems as well after upgrading and here are some of things that helped and that I noticed .
    1) if you have a 64 bit machine use the 64 bit build(one I'm running is currently 2019.7.22) That was the first thing I made sure to do. None of the other builds worked for me. I am running Win7 Pro FYI.
    2) Run chkdsk on the volume that your downloads folder is on. I found that mine was unreadable and had errors on it like crazy. That also affected my ability to get files(after that I wasn't getting aborted response)
    I really love this app and community and want to do my part to keep it alive. Hope this helps someone out there.

    Hi guys, I found out a solution. FYI I’m on MacBook Pro 2020. My shared files and download files had to be relocated in other folders. Easy.

    SoulseekQt-2020-3-12-vs2017-qt5-12-7.exe  didn't work for me under Windows 7 x64 (All updated via Windows Update) however using MingW SoulseekQt-2020-3-12-mingw-qt5-12-7.exe  works fine.
    ISP: AAISP (Andrews & Arnold), UPnP disabled but manually port forwarded from router.
