Hello, is there a way to exclude one folder within your main Shared folder? I'm on a mac and have my iTunes folder shared with thousands of folders but two of those folders are personal. Any advice?

Thanks, much love to Soulseek!

I am assuming you "copy files to itunes media/music folder when adding to library" and that you are sharing your itunes music/media folder. I suggest you move the relevant folders out of the itunes music/media  folder. If you now to try to play those files from itunes, they should play unless you have moved them to another drive. iTunes may say they cannot be found in which case a search dialogue will appear, but the files will not be added to the iTunes music folder, and if that is what you are sharing, they will not be shared.

Please make another copy of the files as a back up if you mess up! In fact ..... always back up. I use time machine regularly.

I hope this makes sense

Yep, that was exactly the kind of the thing I was looking for! The only problem with that (and please let me know if you have a fix for this as well) is that when you add more content to that artist, you will have to move it again. For example, if I have an artist folder called 'Pink Floyd' and I remove that entire folder to another location on the same drive, then the next time I add a song by Pink Floyd to iTunes, a new folder will be created for 'Pink Floyd' with just that one song in it (I know you understand this, I'm just explaining for others that may not). But that's really a very small problem with what I think is a great solution :) Thanks again!!!!

Sorry for the delay - major email upheaval needed sorting out.

My one suggestion would be to not add the tunes to iTunes at all, but open with something like VLC instead. Double clicking will add them to iTunes, and if you do this by mistake remove from iTunes as soon as you see the mistake. I do this with a few collections where the tags are so messed up I have no energy to alter them.

I share only some of my iTunes library folders by name. If I wish to share some and not others by the same artist I rename those I don't want to share Artist-A and do not share those folders. Not maybe ideal for you, but worth a thought. Also if you want the files in iTunes, add them to the library but first change the setting in iTunes preferences : advanced to not add to the iTunes music folder, but remember to change it back afterwards!
