I'd actually like to be able to unshare files with users who have none automatically is this possible?...it only lets them see a message and then they start downloading anyway

I would love it if on the Mac OS X version it would be possible to select as many users my client has caught not to be sharing to be able to select them with the shift button, right click and unshare from all those users in one move, instead of just having to go from user to user to ban them which can be an extremely long process. Hopefully this can be tackled in future releases.

You probably need to double check your shares to see that they are in fact 'shared'.
Add your username to the buddy list, and there you will see how many files you share.

I am transitioning to Debian Stretch after using Soulseek ns on windows for many years, I have installed Nicotine+ 1.2.16 in the last couple of days.
I installed with my package manager from the Debian repository.
I am having huge trouble setting up my shares.
I have about 750 GB of music files on a 3 TB hard drive.
I believe that everyone should share, because it's the right thing to do.
What about people like me, who have huge resources to share but technical difficulties are stopping me at the moment.
No doubt I will solve these issues but I need to do some testing to get it sorted and angry users sending me rude messages shows their intelligence.
One guy even suggested I rip a couple of CD's so I would have something to share. (it's a lot harder to get up and running on Linux than it is pointing and clicking in Windows)
Grow up. There are good reasons why no shares are showing up and I am working hard to resolve the problem.
I am not trying to share the whole drive at the moment and I can get about 60 GB to share occasionally and need to rescan often.
It takes hours to scan these files and when scanning is finished the database creation usually doesn't complete properly.
Other than that Nicotine + is working reasonably well, and I can download files, browse other users files, see their info and use the chat room.

You need to wake up your 3TB drive (open it in File Manager) BEFORE you go into Nicotine.
If you don't, your shares are not seen by Nicotine, and the system will reindex each and every time.
All you need to do is reindex once, and when you log into Nicotine a second time (after waking up your external drive), your shares will be found.

Running Soulseek and Nicotine on Linux is usually straight-forward. Let us know how you go.

Growing up has nothing to do with this, the OP asked a legit question. I got banned a few times as well just because I had my USB drive failing so it kept disconnecting every few minutes and when it did, I appeared with no shares. I also got a couple of nasty messages. It's case by case, some people are understanding, others not so much, just like in life. The OP had a concern about sharing, not all of us have the monthly bandwidth to have selfish users just take, which you understand, that's why the post. How about we create a chat room for users like you who have technical issues, so they could test things before venturing out? I'd be down for that.

Unfortunately you will always have folk who 'like' to ban rather than send a message first, someone has suggested putting any issue you have into the info box, Waste of time simply because how many folk actually take the trouble to read your info!
I have been using Slsk a great many years and seen many changes I don't like, but most of the time I've had issues with people not seeing my files has been because my external hard drive has not booted uon the usb my fault mostly but also SLsk's has been the culprit when I've found I have had to re-initial all my files again,  why???? again Slsk has for some reason kicked out settings.
Another issue I've found quite often again with Slsk is the buddy list either yourself or the downloader needs to be put in the list although your settings are all readt open to everybody.
Souseek has always had gliches, gremlin whatever you call them but I don't know any better program that is better for downloading.
As for people banning you I've had folk with barely a few hundred files putting a ban on me because of them not seeing my files and that is an insult in the highest degree, unfortunately with have to live these antics of the need to be on their buddy list so one has got to ask nicely 'please may I be put on your list??? and all because you may want a couple of files from them!
Finally I have only ever banned people who have actually insulted me and we all know what they are?

What annoys me when someone downloads from me, then places a speed throttle on his outgoing connection. He can download up to 200kb from me, but i can only download at under 1kb (yes you read that right .. 1kb !!) from him. I've spoken to him about it; it's gone from 0.788kb to 0.888kb. That's a good case for a ban.

Seems that there is a bug in mutagen that was preventing my files being scanned into shares, only vbr files were scanning.
The solution was to upgrade to Nicotine+ 1.4.1, as the bug has been fixed in this version.
All good now and after cleaning up my collection a little, I've got it all shared.
No problems waking up my drive, (try editing fstab if your on Linux). My machine thinks it's part of the home directory so no permission issues either.
Plenty of bandwidth available, I usually have about 20 Mbps available, so I've opened the taps a bit and I've seen some uploads going out at 1.5 Mbps.
But some uploads can still go out extremely slow and my downloads sometimes come in at snail pace and there is nothing I can do about it, except find a faster source.
Still a little bit buggy, but I'm happy to live with that. I think that quite a lot of animosity is caused by Soulseek's little Gremlins.
We all need to take a chill pill, and if someone points out that I'm not sharing, and brings it to my attention. Thank You, I will make every effort to fix the problem asap.
The developers are aware of the Gremlins, so I don't think that they will build in auto ban features.
It's not in the spirit of Open Source, someone is sharing their time and expertise.
If we don't share, this software won't work for us or the leechers.
