I know username but forgot password

hi, 

My PC broke a few months back and I had to wait on delivery of my new MacBook Pro. I tried logging in but I forgot the password. I can't download or upload anything. I'm not sure if it's because of the password or my settings aren't confiqired for my MacBook. I hope someone can help.

I created a new user name and password and boom , everything is working. All good.
