@mods please consider stickying this or creating a page for easy access

To open your ports and share your files, you will need to configure your router. Router configuration is specific to your router model.

Look for your router and instructions on how to port forward here: https://www.pcwintech.com/port-forwarding-guides

If you can't find your router on that website, like me, you will need to go over to your router and look for the model, and hopefully a default username (usually admin) and default password. If you don't see these things, you will need to google how to access the login page for your brand of router.

Now you need to access the router login page through your web browser. You can figure out the router's IP address like this: https://nordvpn.com/blog/find-router-ip-address/

Put your router's IP address in your web browser and you should be presented with a login portal. Enter the default username and password. You should now be able to configure your router and local network settings.

Using your router specific instructions, find the port forward options. For my router, I needed to query the network to find a free range of 5 ports. I chose two of the ports from the range I was given (39040 and 39041) and manually set those as open.

Save your changes in the router config portal.

Update those ports in your Soulseek client. Make sure to set both the Listening and Obfuscated ports to open.

Hit "Check Ports" > you should be good to go. If not you will need to troubleshoot.

Restart your client just to make sure everything is good...then happy sharing!

PS feel free to add if I missed anything and let me know if it worked or not.
